Remember Clague was signed as tweener depth. Considering he's holding his own at this level and is paid vet min, I'd call that an A+

I could say C+. I don't see how he could be more. If you're an easy grader a B. But Clague is just never going to be an A.

I'd be totally cool with an under the radar add on defense, a guy truly capable of top 4 minutes.

But you're grading him as if he's supposed to be a top 4-6 defenseman. He was brought here to play in Rochester and get called up. In season he surpassed Pilut, Bryson (sorta) and Fitzgerald. Any player exceeding expectations, personally, deserve a high grade as a signing.

As a player, I mean yeah, C. He's a guy.

Murphy is the far superior D. I liked McCabe but that deal was for too much money and term.
