Cozens is 22 and has had one half of a good season lol. He just made almost 50 million.

I also think it's a smart long term deal but let's not pretend like he took a discount because of Buffalo. He took a discount to get his money guaranteed, now, at 22, and avoid lower paying years before FA.

It's a lot of money to throw at a player with a very small body of success. A good risk and a smart move I think, but hardly a steal.

Oh I agree with you. I don’t know where this Cozens between 8-9 mil stuff came from.

If he continues to progress great. He will probably be overpaid for the first year year and a .5 of the deal but hopefully by mid age of 24 we are talking about how much of a steal it is.

My point though was Dahlin didn’t want to sign long term because this team was a cesspool of suck.

“Winning fixes everything” or something like that.

Lol what

A former top-10 pick at 24 yo for a 29 year old with 25 points and a defensive defenseman?

Mitts between Laine and Jonny hockey is enticing

- BeadyEyedDouche

If he's as good as all that, why trade him? Why trade him for "junk" if he's SOO good?

Blue Jackets are wanting a 1st for Gavrikov and they will get it. Jenner is also wanted by teams, he likely gets a 1st too or a Mittlestadt type player on his own.

Yeah that's fair.

I don't have inside information, but it's possible it was actually the sabres didn't want to give him a 7 year 56 million dollar deal or whatever it would have needed to have been. I think it was more on them than Dahlin. Dahlin had been pretty inconsistent and was not a top defenseman at that point. The shorter prove it deal might have been all both sides could agree to.

Listen, it's the classic internet style trade structure. You offer the guy on your team you are least attached to for two players both better than him, and then you always, I mean always, have to throw that second round pick into the return package to make it extra insulting.

Why so passive aggressive. Also I don’t get what size has to do with it. Fox is at both ends. They play a little different. Fox signed hood deal after winning the Norris and having a similar outlook Dahlin is now. I hope Dahlin follows him and signs after winning a Norris. You asked for comparables and there really are only two in fox and Makar
- SDSabre

Other than physicality, of which Fox has none, I think Fox's game compares to Dahlin more than any other defenseman I've watched in the last two years. No one does what Dahlin does at the top of the zone moving laterally, but Fox does create his own shots in his own way like Dahlin does. He has an insanely high offensive IQ like Dahlin. He's good in his own end like Dahlin. He's probably a little faster. He's not big though and he cannot lay down the hits Dahlin can; consequently, he cannot play as mean as Dahlin does. And, we ain't seen nothin yet in that department IMO. You get meaner as you become a vet, as we've already seen with Dahlin. Dude's gonna be a feared hitter in a couple seasons. I love Fox though. He's wonderful.

Dahlin played hardball because…wait for it….. the Sabres were an awful team heading in the wrong direction.

Do you seriously think Cozens and Thompson are signing those deals on a Sabres team from 3 years ago?

- ImThatGuy

That's a good point. The Sabres aren't going to low ball him IMO. 8 x 10 both sides happy.

Just because you don't like the comparison of draft position doesn't mean it just goes away.

Yeah, I'm not agreeing that a 1/2 rw should have less then 10 5x5 goals going on game 55.
Especially for 6+

Reinfart was a scourge on this franchise.
Followed by the 2015 2OA.

You still just dont get it. You never will.

- Boss34

Sam and Olo our top 2 scorers in 2020-2021.

Sam. 25-15-40 in 54 games
Olo. 13-19-32 in 56 games.

Olo is having a good scoring season. Shooting well above his career avg. Sammy shooting a whole percentage below

The extra 2nd is a running joke at this point

But I never called anyone “junk”.

Mittelstadt on pace for 50 points at 24 for a 30 year old who puts up 40 points and a young defensive defenseman is a good starting point.

Player on your own team who is underrated/underappreciated?

Rasmus Dahlin, Buffalo Sabres: I would say Casey Mittelstadt is never getting any credit. He's always doing the right things out there.

You really think dahlin's contract had more to do with the team performance and not money?

Eichel signed a big deal a little more then 3 years ago?
Traylor hall right? 3 years ago? Maybe 4?

I would disagree. People know he's 3rd line on Buffalo so they aren't going to simply overpay to help the sabres out.

He likely Gavrikov on his own if the sabres are lucky. Blue jackets want a first round pick for him and there's a few teams likely willing to pay for it.

I appreciate the comparables. as I brought up makar and his contract to the suprise of some around here.

Fox is a good comparable point wise.

My passive aggressive side see's dahlin being a more complete player , using his size to play against top line guys.

Posters complain about Bryson's height and size. I think its valid. I was close to the ice for miller night. Bryson was out on the ice against matt Martin and another giant on the islanders. Not a good formula.

Also fox hasnt put up 100 points , not dahlin. But.....
I put my money on dahlin having way more upside.

Think the term power forward
But

Power defenseman. (Not owen)

Yeah, the point was resigning and paying top guys you "earned" from losing.

But sure MacKinnon, not traverses

makar and fox signed their big deals after 3 seasons

dahin's big deal will kick in after 6 seasons

more reasons why dahlin will make more per year on his long term deal

They are really only two comparables for Dahlin. Fox and Makar. I get that they play “differently” but fox is a complete player, he’s not remotely close to Jacob Bryson, has a Norris, and Dahlin is possibly a more complete player. You could throw Hedman as a comparable as well, and use the cap at the time as a percentage. Just a guess, he’s in that 9-9.5 range for now adjusted dollars off his 7.875 per when he signed.

8 for 79 is my guess.

Keeps him under the 10 mil per.
