Nah Samson's a 1/2nd line (frank)face making 6+

Olofsson the true 3rd liner making far less was/is a better deal.

Oh, we cant compare 2 guys picked in the same draft.
Apologies 🤝

- Boss34

Great gas light. Compare away. Posting that their draft position still matters is irrelevant.
BTW, 1st/2nd RW would be in the 20s for RW. Sounds like you agree. đź‘Ť

You'd probably have to give up a 1st round pick in that deal
- Aaron_85

Lol what

A former top-10 pick at 24 yo for a 29 year old with 25 points and a defensive defenseman?

Mitts between Laine and Jonny hockey is enticing

my response had nothing to do with your discussion.

with Dahlin, he will sign a 7 year extension for 9.5M in the next calendar year. Mark it down.

- TheSabresTaco

I'll write down next to pat kane , 80% chance of being a sabre.

No way they pay dahlin less then they gave eichel.
Unless it's for shorter then max term.

Dahlin already played hardball less then 2 years ago.

I'm sure he wants to sign here long term, but his agent isn't going to just sign for whatever.

Dahlins potentially the best defenseman since #4 bobby orr

If you look at the Dahlin deal as the model, I think you have it backwards. It was the exception, while all his peers signed 6-8 year deals.
- Lunaion

That's fair, obviously it's easy to look at the deal that just happened.

Aside from makar and his 6 year deal, do you have any defenseman compatible. Just curious.

I kinda think 1OA's are the exception....

Just because you don't like the comparison of draft position doesn't mean it just goes away.

Yeah, I'm not agreeing that a 1/2 rw should have less then 10 5x5 goals going on game 55.
Especially for 6+

Reinfart was a scourge on this franchise.
Followed by the 2015 2OA.

Was just about to answer Fox as well, but keep in mind Dahlin is going to be signing two years after Fox and frankly, I would rather have Dahlin. Dahlin also has a chance to break 90 points this year and then that is a different conversation.

I think the deal is closer to 11/yr than it is to 9.

Good pull. That's what 🌮 had dahlin signing at.

Not to be argumentative but, 5'11 183 lb point per game guy vs 6'3 dahlin is a little off IMO.

dahlins gonna be close to 100 points this year.

I wish you were dahlins agent.

I'm not a guy that throws $ around, but he's the guy.
Not jeff skinner type guy....

He seriously could be a 100 point guy per year over the deal.

For .5 more then skimmer? Maybe apples and oranges for sure....

With the home town discount, it approaches 11+ still IMO

There isnt really a comparable for the best players.
Just like McDavid. 12.5 was unheard of.

Dahlin played hardball because…wait for it….. the Sabres were an awful team heading in the wrong direction.

Do you seriously think Cozens and Thompson are signing those deals on a Sabres team from 3 years ago?

Well he’s had 2 ES goals, including a beauty of a game winner, in the last 5. We’ll see where he ends up. And yeah we won’t see eye to eye. He always seemed to try his best, but never lived up to the 2OA status. Either way, I’ve had enough Sam talk for the day. Would rather talk about our own

I don't see it that way. Maybe shouldn't have included Jost, but the others would all get a healthy raise with an extension.
- Lunaion

Mittelstadt is not a member of the core group moving forward. The Sabres have their two top centers locked up to deals, with three more centres in the NHL's top 100 prospects including 2 in the top 25. Casey has played decent but he's not an offensive player and he won't be able to hold his position here past next year.

Why so passive aggressive. Also I don’t get what size has to do with it. Fox is at both ends. They play a little different. Fox signed hood deal after winning the Norris and having a similar outlook Dahlin is now. I hope Dahlin follows him and signs after winning a Norris. You asked for comparables and there really are only two in fox and Makar

Cozens is 22 and has had one half of a good season lol. He just made almost 50 million.

I also think it's a smart long term deal but let's not pretend like he took a discount because of Buffalo. He took a discount to get his money guaranteed, now, at 22, and avoid lower paying years before FA.

It's a lot of money to throw at a player with a very small body of success. A good risk and a smart move I think, but hardly a steal.

I'd move on from him too, but the topic was really projecting their cap. If they were to give him a multi-year extension, his cost would go up. He's their 2LW atm.

If you took casey and jost career number and put them side by side there woudlnt be that much difference.
You can get 25 points off the waiver wire so there shouldnt be a reason to extend one unless they are a selke candidate.

My point is he is on the books for 2.5 again next year, and after that should be replaced by someone cheaper and better, so I don't see extra cap going to his roster spot for 3-4 years at least.

Vibes is the response to everything these days, right?

Logically, it's time to move on from him. Would anyone be surprised if they kicked the can another year?

Also I feel like people think we will be able to deal him straight up for something of value, when really we wont.

I'm sure you see my point. He'll still be under team control. Easy to project them to move on, but they may not.
