He’s a mid range upgrade at a time when the team needs to go all in. He wasn’t doing much before he got hurt and I don’t see the point rolling the dice and hoping that just getting here makes things better. I get the playoff pedigree from before and I get the defensive awareness (that we have with Kampf), but I just don’t see this as the kind of difference making move that is going to be needed to get past Boston. Go get the best guy available
- Canada Cup

I agree but don't think they get the best available if its a pure rental.

If ROR could just get some coke and some midnight Timmies, he'd be fine.

Worth the cap hit, worth the term, worth the picks received

Happy with him

- Santo_44

I would be too. Looking solid. Happy he's turned things around.

The thing with Meier you could technically sign him long term and trade him to any team in the offseason since he can't have a NMC next season.

But would that be a reason he wouldn't sign in Toronto?

I would assume if they brought in Timo, that means the end of Nylander.

Unless they traded him

But doesn't seem like a Dubas type move

THIS!

I would have been all in on ROR before he got hurt but now I'm not sure I want Dubas to take the risk - I still have PTSD from that trade as Foligino was supposed to be the toughness and savior and then being the flop he was.

- Cush29

Agreed.
ROR brings up memories up great playing ability in the past...but he hasnt been great this year. And dont want to get stuck paying for what a player was and overpaying for what he actually is.

Yup and i dont see dubas trading for a player, signing him long term and then trading him in a year

He traded for McCann to make sure he only lost either him or Kerfoot.

I dunno, it would be an interesting move. Hell somebody might offer sheet him. A lot of variables.

Sens blog is now non-existent so ya'll mind if I hang out with you?

So, how about that Murray guy eh?

- TDBSenatoR

So far so good.
Probably needs to be moved in the off season if Sammi continues to outplay him.
But we'll see.

Also true.

Its a weird trade, too much thinking for my armchair gm I'll let Dubas take the wheel.

SJ has two options. They could trade him at the TDL to a contender and get a better return by eating some of his salary. Alternatively, they could trade him in the summer to a wider range of teams - adding maybe teams like Buffalo who have more room and are looking to add the pieces. (Just making up a team)

Dubas could pay up to get him with retained salary if he figures he is the best guy to make a real run and decide he’ll deal with the consequences in the summer. The options could be just treat him as a rental and let him go, try to get something back in a grade or try to keep him

the cap forces tough decisions like that
but from an assets management point of view, thats a good move. You get both for 1 playoff run... sign Timo longer term, trade willy to get back the assets you moved for TM.

that all said, doesnt feel like a Dubas kinda thing to do... also if they flop again, he may not be the one making that decision

I think there are better options out there.

Would be happy to have him though.

This is what I think too.

Probably works out well for 2 seasons but creates some turmoil with contracts and the core. Dubas likely passes on that option.

Also too early to let Willy go, I want to see what kind go player he turns into.

The thing is that he doesn’t have to have it all completely game planned out. After two years of RileyNash/Nick Foligno and then Gio/Boosh and his contract on the line, he may decide to go big game hunting. If he decides Meier is the the guy, he’s got options in the summer.

Meier is kind of a rental hybrid but maybe be goes after a keeper like Konecny if Torts goes postal on him next. Whatever it is I just think he goes big.

I think Dubas realizes that the “Dubas kinda thing to do” hasn’t worked when it comes to adding pieces for the playoffs. On the Meier option, he could just as easily let him go if he wants to keep Willie. Either way, I don’t see him making marginal moves this year.

Can you do a Meier trade without giving up Knies?

1st, Neimela, 2nd

Does that do it? Tough to compete with teams that Meier maybe signs long term now with.

in that case wouldnt you just do the QO and then trade him?
or can you do that?

I’ve kind of operated on the assumption that you just treat him as a rental, try to keep him or try to trade him.
