Claude Lemieux, his agent, loves Buffalo - homiedclown
Yeah, A guy like claude would block a deal for his client based on his feelings about a city?
You're really grasping rich |

I'm not so sure it's moot without an extension, as they can easily qualify him for next season.
Agree on not getting into a bidding war. - kingcong39
what would Tyler Bertuzzi get in an open market?

Right - the damage has already been done. They were top-heavy and it has already hurt them. They foolishly signed Tavares and kicked the can down the road.

kane, meier or boeser
who would you rather have beside cozens for a year - homiedclown
For the cost it would take to acquire those players I doubt we’d see any of them.
Now if Meier wanted to sign an extension, it’s a no brainer.

They’ve addressed deficiencies on multiple occasions. I’m not even sure what you’re talking about
And they haven’t been able to get past the first round for a myriad of reasons. |

Leafs and Tampa were the ECF last year, they just happened to play each other in the first round.
The year before that, Tavares got knocked out of the series.
I love ragging on the Leafs more than anyone, but they are a cup contender |

They’ve just made bad roster decisions.
Saying that adding John Tavares in his prime hurt them is absurd |

4 of those 5 were drafted and developed, with the 5th in Tavares costing nothing but cap space as a free agent.

And the years before that? If they had been able to address the D they would have been a real threat. They would have beaten tampa last year.

Oh, WELL, they must have a banner hanging up with those stats. I am sure their fans feel great about that. We can relate - have a President's trophy hanging up to glorify our shortcomings.

I think The Adam's Plan is working just perfectly and the negative view from players is pretty much over, and eyes are wide open to the environment...shall we say Cultural Change occuring.
Now, if you are referring to the City of Bufflalo, to me that is a totally different issue - IonSabres
That's all fine, but we all know why Buffalo isn't a preferred choice for UFAs. That's what we're facing here, trying to get someone to pass on UFA to extend, sight unseen.

They nearly did, it was a heavy weight bout that could have went either way.
It’s not like they got cleaned up in 5. |

Adding Timo wouldn’t hurt this team even at 9m a year for the next 4 or 5 yrs and then you deal with it. What could he help bring in those years that that 1st rnd pick won't in that time, especially if it's around the 20th pick in the draft. |

They had to. They couldn't keep rolling out discount options. They knew they had to spend money on the position if for no other reason than appearances (the discount options hadn't worked).

I can see Timo Meier going for a lot less than people anticipate due to that qualifying offer, and I’d be upset if he went to New Jersey if it was a reasonable deal.
I also wouldn’t burn Adams at the stake if he didn’t move a package of multiple and prospects and picks for 16 months of Timo Meier either.
I guess we’ll see what happens, the player though is elite.

That would be like us feeling great if we lost to KC and Cincinnati in the first round of for the next 3 years. "Hey, we're better than we used to be and better than other teams". Um, no. The Leafs don't feel good about the last 7 years, nor should they.
Anyway, I didn't plan on it turning into this. I never argued against the move, I would just prefer to have the most flexibility down the road. I would assume that getting a guy like Meier would mean that Olloffson would be gone in a year or two as I think signing him long-term would absolutely put us over the edge (if we brought in a guy like Meier).
