If Girgs were an UDFA, everyone would love him. Works hard and contributes with a very limited skill set. The kind of guy everyone roots for.

Doesnt help our faceoff%

Hasn't helped the PK

Doesnt contribute offensively

Falls more than Scott Hartnell

Not sure who would love him...

Again just so I am clear

You are the guy who cannot shut up about how great Girgensons is and ask what player would we rather have?

Domi a thousand times.

- BeadyEyedDouche

Let's trade for a guy that would be on his 6th nhl team in 8 years. Sounds like a perfect vibe guy 😀

Guys a loser.

Or keep a former 1st round Olympic captain, who's played his entire career in buffalo, where he wants to be?

1,000 times huh?

I have not / never said how great girgensons is. I said he fits the role of a 4th liner. What do you expect from a 4th liner points wise?

I said he fits the 4th roll and is slotted correctly on this roster

You are going to stick domi on the 4th line?

It's true. If he was their 13F on a league minimum deal, people would feel differently about him.

"The 2012 NHL Entry Draft will be remembered by most hockey fans as the Yakupov draft, but there were some good players picked in the draft. Unfortunately for the Sabres, they missed out on a bunch of them with the 14th overall pick. Buffalo selected Zemgus Girgensons with their pick, while Tom Wilson, Tomas Hertl, Andrei Vasievskiy and Scott Laughton were taken with four of the next five picks. Girgensons has been out all season with a hamstring injury and he’s failed to score more than 19 points in a season since 2014-15. If he had played this season he would have hit the 500-games played mark, but as of now he sits at 489 games played with zero playoff appearances."

Zemgus Girgensons helps Latvia qualify for 2022 Winter Olympics

Zemgus Girgensons missed the entire 2020-21 season with the Buffalo Sabres after suffering a hamstring injury early in training camp. He's expected to be ready to roll for this summer's training camp, which is expected to get underway some time in mid-to-late September.

Girgensons is already back in action this summer, as he took part in 2022 Olympic qualifying action with his home nation of Latvia in Riga. Following the three-game qualifying action, Girgensons finished with an assist as Latvia officially qualifies to play at the Winter Olympics in Beijing, China.

The Latvians punched their tickets to the Winter Games this upcoming winter with a 2-1 win over France in Group E action on Sunday. The winner of the contest was going to make their way to Beijing after both team had earned wins over Italy and Hungary earlier in the tournament.

If National Hockey League players are allowed to play in the Winter Olympics this February, it would be the second time in his career that Girgensons would represent Latvia in the Olympic games. He also played at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, where he scored a goal and picked up an assist in five games.

There has still been no final confirmation whether or not NHL players will be able to represent their countries in the 2022 Olympic Games, but NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has expressed his concerns with allowing the players to play in Beijing this winter.

Girgensons also played in Olympic qualifying action back in 2018 with Latvia, but the nation just failed to qualify for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. However, NHL players were not granted permission to participate in the Olympic Games that year.

Also qualifying for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing on Sunday was Slovakia and Denmark. The Slovaks only needed a point in their final matchup of Group D with Belarus, and they earned that point with a 2-1 win. Meanwhile, Denmark punched their ticket to the Olympics with a do-or-die 2-0 win over Norway in Group F action.

Here is how the Groups will look for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games for men's ice hockey in China:

Group A:
- Canada
- United States
- Germany
- China

Group B:
- Russian Olympic Committee
- Czech Republic
- Switzerland
- Denmark

Group C:
- Finland
- Sweden
- Slovakia
- Latvia

Can you name me 5 better goalies?

Ya'll keep saying he's on the best team but he wasn't when he posted a .915 while here. On the worst franchise in the last 11 years

- DirtyDan

I think I could name 10, but might disagree on some. Vasilevsky, Saros, Oettinger, Shesterkin, Hellebuyck and Sorokin I think could be placed firmly ahead though.

And while I get what you're saying about the .915, keep in mind Anderson is currently sitting at a .918 SV% today, Korpisalo is at a .910. The team is better now and CLB is still better defensively, so it explains some, but a .915 isn't some great statistical year. Usually that's about the average rate for decent starters.

I have no problem with the player, think Girgs is good at what he does, when he stays on his feet. I just think the Sabres have the younger players to roll 4 lines with speed and forecheck at you with more scoring touch. Sabres don't need a conventional 4th, they have the talent to roll 4 fast lines.

My point wasn't .915 is a great save %.

Ya'll would harp on him for being above average on a horrid team. And now you flip the switch saying "well look at his team"

He was good on the worst franchise in the 2010's and now he's Vezina caliber on a great team.

I'd put him in that 4-7 spot. Could argue anywhere around that position.

Hard to argue he's better than

Sorokin
Shesterkin
Hellebyuck

And posted by Homie.... the highest average by goalies in a year since 2006 was .911...

Boss is the only reason Girgs comes up here. Outside of that, he's just a 4th liner without much positive or negative effect on the team.

I actually think a little more defense would help his game and his team win

I think the rest of the NHL would really appreciate it if the Oilers told McDavid the change the way he plays
