Just kidding. It’s mostly my brother with the endless “woo’s”. Rough 2nd. Questionable boarding?

Zero chance they trade Haula with how our staff is enthralled with his faceoff ability. I like him on our team.. as the 3rd line center, and maybe some clutch defensive zone FWs.

Heck of a 3rd period. The Rock was going bananas. Not a bad first game to take my brother in law to. My sister's 2nd game too.

Even though he scored, i feel like Palat should not be in the top 6, him and Haula both need to be in the bottom 6.

I think he works well with bratt and Nico brings a nice element to the line

We don't really have anyone that could take his place

We still have haula on line 1 or 2 depending which line you consider Hughes on

Other than Bratt we don't really have a winger that would be considered a top line winger and even 2nd line

Who else are you playing over Palat? Lmao. Only Bratt and Tatar have better numbers than him. We have 2 top 6 wingers on the team, Bratt and Palat, and 1 true middle 6 winger that you feel comfortable playing in a top 6 role, which is Tatar. Palat is also the best forechecker on the team. Any metric you look at, Palat is a borderline top line winger in this league, even in his limited minutes this year.

The cluttered cap situation around the league is going to make it difficult for the Devs to get Timo Meier as much as a lot of people think he'd be a real good fit here.

Well yeah, but that has nothing to do with Palat lol. Even if we get Meier, Palat isn't moving out the top 6. It should be Haula, but knowing Ruff it'll be Tatar that moves onto the 3rd line.

Why would the cluttered cap situation around the league affect us getting Meier? Lol. We're one of the few contending teams who won't have an issue fitting him without needing to do major surgery.

Timo is second and Jack is third in shots in the NHL.

Could you imagine all the scoring chances, rebounds, goals that could be scored if we get Timo?

That's been a major takeaway of this entire season for me as well. It's awesome that our long term strategy of having two elite centers is coming along nicely, but they can't be expected to prop guys up every single night when they don't belong on top line or even top 6.

You look around the league, many elite centers (on teams that are developed) have somebody they're paired with who are equally talented and/or capable of playing those minutes on their own.

That said, I have noticed a bit of a shift in the NHL where teams are spreading their wealth out a bit more as opposed to totally stacking a line. Similar to Taylor Hall only playing 15 mins a night for Boston's 3rd line at times, but the fact remains that elite centers get their guy who helps elevate them both to another level. The Bergeron/Marchand - McDavid/Draisaitl, Point/Stamkos/Kuch, Hintz/Robertson, Mika/Panarin just to name a few.

Teams clearly understand the need for at least one insane combo to run their team, which places an additional emphasis on our need to add a Meier or somebody who helps give us two lines with those type of combos between Jack/Nico/Jesper and player X.

Yea that's where it hurts not having Holtz take the next step everybody was expecting, along with Sharangovich regressing a bit. Mercer should be the guy who is playing in Haulas spot to round out our top 6 but Ruff and apparently Jack want Haula there. Funnily enough, Zetterlund has been our 4th best natural winger this year lol(Not including Haula, hes only behind Bratt/Tatar/Palat), but he's better off in the press box apparently. (frank)ing Ruff. Tatar having a rebound season has helped offset the lack of top 6 wingers for sure, but still gotta add one more. Which would then lengthen the rest of the lineup by dropping someone down.

5v5 winger ranks on the team right now(#1-5, including Haula):

CF%: Bratt, Tatar, Haula, Palat, Zetterlund
xGF%: Tatar, Bratt, Palat, Haula, Zetterlund
SCF%: Tatar, Bratt, Haula, Palat, Zetterlund
HDCF%: Palat, Tatar, Bratt, Zetterlund, Haula

Also, Haulas numbers are obviously being boosted by playing with Jack(away from Jack he drops to slightly above 50% on all and essentially only above McLeod/Wood in those categories). So why is Zetterlund in the press box every night? Lol

New lines today:

Palat-Nico-Bratt
Sharangovich-Jack-Zetterlund
Tatar-Haula-Mercer
Wood-McLeod-Bastian

Okhotiuk back in for Bahl

Honestly dont mind these lines. I would have left Bo in for Wood, but thats obviously never happening lol. We'll see how long these last before Ruff puts Haula back with Jack tomorrow.

Question on Meir.

If Devils traded w/o San Jose extension, does that mean the Devils need to qualify him at 10 mil? If so, only the first year, correct? a 7 yr deal could be like 10, 9, 8 7.. etc.

Or if he is traded without an extension, can the Devils re-up this season, bypassing the 10 mil qualifier?

Or any contract he signs, with any team, has to start at 10 mil? I dont think I understand how these work.

Im sure at some point Nico and Timo talked in the offseason about joining the team. If Timo told Nico he is going to sign with the Devils, is there a way we can fleece San Jose? Like getting him cheaper without an extension, knowing he will sign in NJ?

Teams have the ability to trade for Meier and re-sign him to a contract right away. But the issue is that if you don't have a deal in place beforehand you're either going to have to qualify his offer for 10mil for one season (which he might do then walk anyway) or let him walk into FA. It's a really good deal for Meier but bad for teams.

People think we're in the front running because Nico and Timo are both Swiss, apparently good friends, and have played together internationally multiple times. However, you might see Meier not on the Devils after the deadline because everybody knows he controls his future going into FA. You might see him sign with us in the offseason if the Sharks asking price doesn't come down (which it should since they aren't re-signing him).
