I'm not liking this deal right now. Urgency was needed two years ago. Lou does not seem to be going anywhere with this move.

I don't understand why they did this. Feels too late.

Lou is going for it! Time will tell if this is an overpay. I fear it is, and I tend to agree with you that the timing isn't right. But I was wrong several years ago, and hopefully I am wrong again...

This feels like Lou feeling the heat for having two lousy offseasons so I better do something. Still does not solve the need for a wing for Barzal.

It's on NHL.com:

If Lou is going for it this cannot be the only move. Hope this move works out. It's not feeling like the right thing at the moment. This might get us a new blog though.

Regardless, I don't hate the trade in-and-of itself...but I don't know what the plan is here. Do they see how things go until the deadline and flip him if they still stink? Do they extend him into his mid-30's at a premium price and saddle themselves with another expensive, long-term deal? Horvat is having a monster season that's well above his usual offensive output and he's pretty unlikely to repeat this kind of production...especially here.

I guess this is going to be a wait-and-see kind of deal but this reeks of desperation from Lou

I get you not hating the move chief. There are really concerns with the deal no question and it's far from a slam dunk. Have to see the details on giving up a #1. Saw this from the main blog.

I like Horvat a lot, but I'm just perplexed as to what their plan is and don't expect any sort of insight into that anytime soon

Still makes no sense Lou was not this aggressive two years ago. Bo is a fine player, but C was not a big need. Hope it all works out. Time will tell.

We traded our first this year and our best prospect for a center. One of our positions of strength. It seems like we don’t have a contract in place maybe that changes soon but if there’s not that’s not really sane. Lol. I’m not even sure I want Horvat here long term he’s 27 so we plan ok signing him till he’s 35? This deal to me makes zero sense. I can’t believe we just traded our first and Raty with this team playing the way it has Jesus Christ

I'm not overly heartbroken about Raty. He was never projected to be a real top-line driver of the play and at least the pick is top-12 protected.

I just don't know re-signing him at a premium into his mid-30's is smart. If they do and things don't work out then they're in for a long, dark rebuild. Horvat is probably going to get Barzal money, give or take a little bit

This is a shock for sure Cpt. When I saw this at first, I thought is it April fools? This does not seem to fit the teams biggest positional need. Bo should help for sure. It's just a matter if it makes enough sense over the long haul.

Isles finally got a lefty shot on the right side of PP1. They finally got a top tier "winger"/player to play with Barzal. Neither Beau, Raty or the first filled that role. Those two things were needed since Tavares departure. It had to be done.

Assuming they extend Horvat, I like the trade for the isles needs.

Is this real?

Andrew Gross
@AGrossNewsday
Isles acquire Bo Horvat for Beauvillier, Raty and a first round pick.

- ses111

Wow....I presume the 'condition' of the pick changes based in if Horvat, a pending UFA' signs an extension? Need to know more but at face value, this is not the move we needed

Pick is top-12 protected. Slides to next year if the Isles pick is that low.

Seems very risky. If Bo is not signed soon, will the Islanders risk letting him walk or do they trade him again at the deadline? Lots of unanswered questions.

He is a C not a wing and he is currently unsigned. Even if the Isles can sign him, he will not be cheap.

Him being a center, not signed(maybe he will be who knows), I liked raty, our first this year, can’t agree with you there on that one. Like you said the kid is going to look to get paid. He’s not what we need imo. This team shouldn’t be trading prospects and picks for anything. Maybe we’ve been watching different teams for the last year and a half.
