Someone needs to get Mayfield to fix that missing tooth because he looks twice as stupid now when baffled by a penalty call....

Hopefully Jakob can put up 30 goals a season.

Even under Barry when the defensive play was really good, the worry was about the 1st line and the line not being good enough on defense.

We've had a need for a need for a top line scoring winger since Vanek.

Many of us know this, but the people in charge do not get the urgency.

Great article on Barry Trotz in The Athletic. Definitely worth a read.

Seems like he is doing everything in his power to drive down his value.

This team sucked under trotz last season. Anyone who wants to go with the whole road trip/Covid excuse go right ahead but here we are again. Either trotz lost the team or this team is toast. I think it was a combination of the two.

"How about we send you Mayfield for a 2nd rounder?"

Barry lost the team. You could see they were tired of "playing the right way" and not scoring much. Couple that with a down season. Unfortunately, Lane can't get these stiffs playing the "right" way now either.

I get the whole we can’t judge Lambert thought process. BUT the team hasn’t played a complete game maybe the entire season(I can’t remember one maybe there was?), they are a defensive sieve, the forwards are utterly useless, any opposing team can run anyone on our team without retribution. If this were any other team the fans would be screaming for the coach’s head. Again I think it’s a combination of the team sucking and Lambert not doing a good job whether system or preparedness. Whatever it is he’s not infallible imo.

His shock and reaction every time he gets called for an obvious, useless, penalty is one of the only things left that is entertaining at this point

Hopefully Lambert continues giving him 25 mins a night

The easy thing is to fire the coach, but that's not fixing the major issues. I do not want to see Lou making risky trades, but if Lou is keeping the job going forward and it's his call, player moves should be made before another coaching move is made.

I don't know if I'd say "Barry lost the team" as much as I'd speculate that they just continued to get older/slower/more injury prone and their true colors finally showed.

If we're being fair, they were absolutely free-falling in the standings after Pelech went down in the original Covid-shortened season and there is a very real chance they may not have even made the playoffs had the season not been stopped when it was. It was only because of that 17-game point streak that they were left in a playoff spot when things stopped.

Then came the 56gm season where they only played teams in the Eastern Conference.

This may be more of a "this is closer to the reality of what the Islanders are" scenario than it is being able to place any sort of blame with Trotz or Lambert.

We all know I had some frustrations with some of Barry's decisions, but Barry is a fine coach and this is a roster issue and not a coaching issue even with Lane IMO. I never even thought Barry should be fired even after last year. Lou was fooled by the two long playoff runs and he miscalculated badly. If the Islanders were all in win a Cup after those playoffs then Lou went about it all wrong. Some will not want to hear it, but Lou had very similar offseason than Garth had with very few moves being made.

The blame goes to the GM. Buck always stops there. especially after he fired Trotz. No one else to point the finger at. Lou has known this team needed a true 1st line for years and has done nothing to address the glaring need. What probably happens is a whole lot of nothing, the team misses the playoffs for the 2nd straight season and the owners don't renew Lou. (Last one is a MAJOR hope for me) I mean, it's kinda common sense but this is the Isles we're talking about.

Yea, Barry is one of the best to ever do it. He's the last thing that was a real problem with this team.

Sure, there are probably some things that he could have maybe done differently....but he's still a surefire HoF'er and one of the greatest coaches of all time. Personnel issue weren't his fault and he did exceedingly well with what he was given.

I'm not as confident about Dufour (re: making the team next year)

He's scoring well in BPT (33gp - 12g, 10a) for a rookie but I think his skating is what's going to be an issue at the NHL level. That puts him on pace for about 26g over a 72gm AHL season, which is great for his first pro year though. I just think he's going to be a little bit longer of a project.

The year after next will see: Bailey/Beauvillier/Clutterbuck/Martin all come off the cap and that is my guess for when he makes the team full-time.

- eichiefs9

Holy crap I thought Beauvillier’s contract was finished this year. Thanks for ruining my day.

Firing Barry last year never crossed my mind and I wanted him coaching the Islanders years ago. I stand by some of my problems with Barry, but he is a great coach. I also stand by the Islanders hiring Lou, but Lou has been very disappointing with his work with the roster. Hard to debate these things.

All coaches and GM’s have a window. Lameriello’s and Trotz’s closed imo. Trotz took the fall and was canned. I wouldn’t be shocked in anyway if lameriello is given more time. I don’t agree with it in anyway especially if we’re doing a rebuild. The guy dropped the ball he owns this.

If the Islanders miss the playoffs again no idea how you bring Lou back? Lou's past success is not enough. Would still love to know what Lou's offseason thought process was these last few years. If Lou somehow is back as GM this offseason, he better be prepared to do actual work.
