Lou has done crazy things with coaches in the past. Would this be wild? yes. Is it SO outside the realm of possibility? no.
In truth, methinks Trotz stated he would like to coach an original 6 team.

Yeah, I mean honestly I don't see any way this actually happens. It's more 'fun banter'. I can't imagine Lou would swallow his pride and bring him back in, whether there were hidden intentions in his original dismissal or not. Additionally, Lane is a close friend of Trotz. Trotz was reportedly very happy they chose him to replace him (maybe it was a condition). But what do you do with Lane in that case? He's not going to just step back into an Asst Coach role. I also doubt Trotz would ever return to push him out.

No idea where Chris is getting his info. No question Barry is a much better coach than Lane. This is beyond coaching though.

No one knows whats going on in this organization and that include those in it
- Upstate_isles

Team doesn't know what they are supposed to do defensively on the ice or if they do the structure isn't working.
If the Isles had a lead under Barry they were tougher to score on. With Lane that's not the case. Its the exact opposite actually.
The odd man rushes and the whole team being on the other side of the puck is obvious.
If not for sOrOkin it would be even worse if that even imaginable.

At this point it's the team performance that would push Lane out not another coach.

Barry did great as coach, but even Barry could only get this team so far and the roster is not as good as during those playoff runs. Even when Al went on that run with the Islanders during the 92 season, the Islander forwards were much better than this teams forward group. I'm sure other coaches might be able to do better than Lane, but if the goal is the Cup the roster is not good enough.

As well as exponentially older, slower, and injured far too often. This goes back to what we were talking about earlier regarding knowing when to cut ties with players. Who would have ever guessed?

Question, If you go full rebuild mode. Would you trade Barzal or have him in the deal for the #1 draft which of course would be Bedard. I think it would have to start with Barzal in the conversation and probably more added.
I would be all in.

I'd trade anything for that pick, but unless we bottom out and win the lottery there is a 0% chance that whoever holds it will trade it for anything short of McDavid

Pretty much and with him being much younger and cost controlled for a while I would think most would have pause even for mcdavid. You have to remember whoever is drafting him isn’t going to be ready to contend for a while why have an older mcdavid?

Not only would I trade Barzal for that pick, but I'd throw in the rights to Uncle Leo.

Definitely true. Even a Ricky Williams-type of deal won't make that happen. The amount of epic tanking from Chicago, Arizona, Anaheim, San Jose, and Columbus should be something to behold. Guys are going to practically be shooting pucks into their own net

If it took Barzal, whatever version of Simon Holmstrom we’re drafting this year, Dobson, and whoever else, lameriello would suddenly lose his loyalty to said players

Imagine though, if Columbus gets him they would have a top line of Gaudreau, Bedard, Laine ...

I think Bedard will be awesome, but he better grow another inch or two. McDavid may be older, but he's notably bigger than Bedard who is presently 5'9"

Yep that’s his one knock from what I have read at least. There doesn’t seem to be too much concern attached to his size though. I’m sure that was part of the plan for Columbus. They have a few year window to add to the roster before they have to pay him. They have some pieces in place already.

Sorry I should have hyphenated “if they got him” due to being on hockeybuzz with my fellow GM’s.

Does anyone know what brought on that Botta stuff? Was he asked who would replace Lambert? Was he asked who might take over for Lou???

We may need to have him center Ross Johnston and Matt Martin just to "keep the flies off him."
