Someone else. Lou gave them much needed credibility, and Trotz. It sent a message that L & M wanted to win. Now it's time for a new direction.

Pretty much my thoughts as well. Lou has done a lot for the islanders but like all execs his time/effectiveness has run out imo. All signs point to Ledecky not agreeing with that so I hope Lameriello is capable of pivoting and shifting the direction to the future.

I believe everyone is on the same page that this team needs a facelift at the very least. My question is would most rather Lou at the helm for the retool/rebuild or someone else?
- Cptmjl

I'm not sure Lou is willing and able to change direction at this point.

Hard to tell with Ledecky. I'm not surprising he gave Lou the vote of confidence. I doubt he was going to trash Lou at that event.

I’m not sure about that either. We will know in the next few weeks.

Hey this year has been a telling tale, last year wasn’t Covid, new Arena, etc when this year you play worse. Lou gave the group a year to right the ship. They deserved that, however if they don’t prove they can do it then they shot their load. Time to make some changes.

The votes of confidence for coaches and GM's often times precede coaches and GM's getting fired.

Not necessarily suggesting that I think they're going to fire Lou (although I can't say I'd be shocked if they did), but there's been lots of times someone got a vote of confidence from the front office and/or ownership before they got canned.

My biggest fear now is that Lou trades the first round pick this year for some over-30 hack. It's time to sell almost everything, not buy.

Speaking of which, what does one think about moving Nelson?

He’s arguably the most valuable piece that the Islanders could feasibly move, and one which the organization already has a possible in house replacement (Räty).

Mine too.

As far as the vote of confidence goes, what else can Ledecky say. He has to back Lou up unless he's going to fire him right now. Otherwise he chops Lou off a the knees.

We're getting Sorokin tonight, eh? Ahh well, we're retiring Ryan Miller's jersey tonight, so maybe we'll get a little goalie magic ourselves.

You only move Nelson if you’re doing a full tear down. Not sure if this team needs that with Sorokin and our blue line. We also have Pageau, Barzal, and we’re stuck with Palmieri nobody is taking on that contract. Also factor in we’re more then likely stuck with Bailey unless they buy him out. So in reality they need to make two legit, good, adds to the top 6 imo.

The Islanders can't score to save their lives.

This is about as magically-inclined as your goaltender will need to be:

I’m aware I could be completely wrong about this but I don’t think Lameriello is trading this years first. As far as Ledecky giving him a vote of confidence he did the same with Snow and Weight the day before he fired them. Not saying he’s firing Lou but him saying nice things about him doesn’t mean he isn’t.

This is true chief and if Lou's contract is up, then you are just not giving him a new deal so a little nicer than a firing. Lou better not think of moving the #1 pick this year.

I'm a big fan of Raty but I'm still not ready to assume he's going to be a replacement. And like Cpt said, if we're trading Nelson then we're heading towards a full tear-down.

As pessimistic and angry as I am about how this season is going, I'm not fully sold that we need to go scorched-earth just yet.

I think it will be more of the same. No moves. Which is probably best unless they can unload salary for picks.

I still think with a few tweaks, this roster could be successful, however not with this GM at the helm.

Other then probably (hopefully) trading mayfield at the TDL we aren’t(shouldn’t) touching are blue line save for adding a bottom pairing defender. What kind of investment and how good that player is depends on whether they want to compete next year or not. They need to revamp the top 6 and get a bottom pairing defenseman and a backup. I don’t really see anything else.

Well yeah they have to focus on trading Beau, Varlamov, mayfield, at the deadline. Whether they like it or not they’re not getting rid of anyone else. Have to try and get the best return for whatever we can for the future.

I hope Bolduc is an option for the bottom pairing dman. It would help the Cap for sure. Fixing the top 6 will be a huge challenge.
