Man, that Clutterbuck extension looks even worse than I thought it would. You have to assume all of those career hits have broken him down pretty good. I wonder how bad tonight's injury is

It was such a slam dunk to move him last deadline for whatever you could get.

Yeah, I didn't like that deal in the slightest. A bad shoulder with surgery, declining speed and a lot of tough mileage. He really doesn't bring anything at this stage

To make no moves at the deadline and then following up by just adding Romanov in the offseason. How is this suppose to get the Islanders to the Cup? The last two offseasons have hurt this team in a big way.

I said we would know by the end of this month whether we were buyers or sellers. I guess we just found out a little sooner. Wow that was pitiful.

Islanders had 23 turnovers and the Wild had five.

Shot on goal last night was 1st P = 4 shots, 2nd P = 10 shots, 3rd P = 6 shots

How lifeless is this?

This isn’t exactly a bad thing. It was time after last season to retool this roster. Lameriello didn’t get the message. If he somehow misses the message this season he’s completely shot.

I heard the "Lou Must Go" chants in the postgame. Isles fans need to start doing it during these pathetic losses so that "Good Times" Ledecky hears it.

Ledecky just gave him a vote of confidence yesterday. With that said if he keeps throwing this roster out there claiming they are contenders while we miss the playoffs, again, does he continue with that sentiment? I can’t imagine the owners are ok with two consecutive non playoff seasons in a new building. Maybe they are? Maybe they are good with Lameriello doing a face lift on this roster? We will know soon enough.

At a bare minimum they should be trying to sell Mayfield, Parise, and Varlamov. They aren't getting much for any of those guys, but there's zero value in keeping any of them on the roster for the remainder of the season.

Yes, however if the team continues to trend downward, the chants will continue and grow in volume. Ledecky can only say "lou's great" for so long. Especially if that building is dark for a second straight postseason.

I think they can get a decent return on mayfield. A middling return on Parise maybe. If the Oilers manage to stay in the playoff race maybe we could get a mediocre return on Varlamov. With that said you’re right just get it going and get what you can. If we can get a better return now while making our roster less competitive(I’m all for this) let’s get the show on the road! Maybe for once we get lucky with the draft lottery. Has to happen eventually right?

They might get a 2nd and a decent prospect for Mayfield, or a handful of middling picks. I guess it depends what the rest of the market looks like. If there's no defensemen out there then that'll drive his price up but the time to get a 1st round pick for him would've been last year. They're not sniffing that this year.

They should absolutely retain the max 50% on Varlamov if the opportunity to trade him presents itself. Even try and find a 3rd party team to eat another 50% so Varly could literally go anywhere. That'll maximize the return on him.

I'd assume Parise would be in the 3rd/4th round pick territory, but I'd take it since they have zero need for him the rest of the way.

Not sure if Parise wants to go anywhere in all honesty and I assume Lou will honor whatever he decides. I can see us getting a little better return on all of the above potentially. That’s if it is handled correctly and there’s some competition between buyers. So we need some luck along with some competence.

I don't see Mayfield being that valuable. The draw last year was that you'd have him for another year at a rock-bottom price that most teams could accommodate. This year he's just a good bottom pairing defenseman rental that's going to get overpaid as a UFA this summer. He's a "quality" bottom pairing rental. That has value, but not "1st round pick in a deep draft" value. And if, by some chance, they do get a 1st for him...it'll probably end up being somewhere in the 29-32 range.

Maybe Lou ultimately honors a Parise request to stay put, which I guess is fine. I'd like Parise back next year whether they retool or not, he's a hard working player and a good veteran presence in the locker room for young guys. But you'd think he'd want to take one last kick at the can and try to win a Cup before his career is over soon.

Goalies don't historically get huge returns, but at 8-4-1 with a .913sv% and 2.76GAA playing on an average team...Varlamov would definitely be worth something of value, especially with salary retained

I think we’re going to see a lot of 2024 firsts traded this deadline for exactly this reason.

Yeah 100%. I’m really interested to see which way this goes as far as Lou’s direction. I assume he’s going to wait and see how the team responds to Pelech being back in the lineup. I say this fully knowing the team was sputtering with him healthy . I don’t see Lou packing it in anytime soon unfortunately hopefully it’s not to the detriment of the future…

Just under two months to go until the trade deadline. I don't expect to have even the slightest idea of which direction he decides to go in until we get within a week or two of March 3rd.

As fed up as fans are right now, there's still half a season left and they're going to try to turn it around. Pelech getting back in the lineup will help immensely.

They're really just stuck in the middle right now, which is the absolute worst place to be in the NHL. They aren't bad enough to hope for a high draft pick and they aren't good enough to be confident, even if they somehow make the playoffs.

I agree with all of this. I was tentatively optimistic and hoping I was wrong with what I was seeing with my own eyes last season and this one.

This is the year to pull the plug early imo and maximize the return on whatever we could get for our tradable assets. I fully expect him NOT to do that.

Same. I expect him to do absolutely nothing. Even if this team is completely out of it come the trade deadline, I have ZERO confidence that Lou will do a damn thing. As you see this team is how it will end the season.
