It was an interesting debate whether to trade Varly or not this past offseason. I'm not sure he can be moved this deadline if needed?

Not saying to trade him but that’ll depend on how well he plays btn now and the TDL. Not sure who would be looking for a goaltender then but who knows what will happen in the next couple of months. I still think more likely then not we’ll be buyers for better or worse.

I would have rolled the dice and moved him this last offseason. I just hate the idea of even thinking about moving the #1 or someone like Raty. Would almost be better if they kept losing and not even be given a chance to be buyers.

I don’t blame lameriello for not moving Varlamov. I also see the other side of it.

I agree it was a risk. It's tough not having a capable backup in Bridge to rely on though. It's interesting outside of Milbury and his reckless moves, when the Islanders where passive in terms of making moves under Garth and Lou, it has not worked out well. Islanders have struggled with the balance of making enough moves. That Patty for Pierre trade was gold. Looks like we may need to move Barzal.

I think Varly’s been better overall this season than last. Also, I’m not sure his trade value would have been as high last year as it would be this deadline. I think if he gets back to form prior to injury, he’ll have plenty of value, should Lou want to move him. I’m getting to the point where I just want to tear it down. Sick of the aging vets on this team mailing it in most nights. Not blaming anything on Varly in the aging vets comment. More the usual suspects and a few others.

I think moving Varly this past offseason was more about freeing up Cap. This team is badly in need of some tear down. The problem is they can probably move Mayfield or a Beau but not the aging vets they want to move. I get Cap issues but many saw the lack of moves would not work out well. Many of the hockey writers were shocked out Romanov was added this offseason.

I’m all for rebuilding. The writing is on the wall. I still think they could squeeze out this season competitively if they got their crap together but this upcoming draft is deep so there’s no time like the present. Problem is we have a lot of dead wood on this team signed past this season. That makes it incredibly difficult.

There was a rumor there was a deal in place with the Oilers for him. Who knows if there was any truth to it kind of like the Gaudreau rumors

Islanders are a huge tease. You think they will crash and then win a few then back to losing.

There are several players entering their prime years. To me it would make more sense to retool the team. Otherwise you are wasting Sorokin, Barzal, Pelech, Pullock, JGP...

Yeah I’m not saying a “full” rebuild. More or less saying tank this year and get in the running for Bedard and keep our fingers crossed. Trade varly(if there’s a market), Beau, and Mayfield at the TDL. Try to find a way to dump Bailey which more then likely will prove futile. Buy him out when we know we can’t dump him. That’s about it. Nobody is taking on any of our players with term that we would want to get rid of. All of this SHOULD happen if this team continues its descent.

When you think about it we could potentially go into next season pretty competitive if we can sign a strong FA or make a trade or two.
