they still need to tighten up. i had the game on in the background while i was doing stuff nd honestly started tuning it out until the Laf goal.

It's concerning that there seems to be no fire in this team. Occasional blips sure, but it just seems like they're not a team and don't have the desire for whatever reason. let's hope this changes as last year they had something that they're lacking this year

Absolutely. This is what brought me to the comparison with the 2013 Maple Leafs last night. No passion or will to win. Trying to play by nothing but skill. That recipe hasn't worked in this league for over a hundred years, but somehow this group thinks it can for them??

I know i've been complaining about GG, but i personally think that falls 100% on the players and not coaching. Don't these guys want to win? They know what they have to do to win, so put in the damn effort. They should need a coach to keep them motivated to play hard and win.

It was the same thing when Quinn was here and people would female dog that he should be having them ready to play when our starts to games were horrendous. These are pro athletes that know they need to give 110% every shift if they're going to be successful in this league. It's maddening lol

You can’t replace 20 players though lol. Maybe having a coach that will bench people when they don’t want to play hard will help a little

We have the players we have, for the most part. It is possible that more than one coach is bad at getting our players to play 60 minutes every night.

There's a bit of chicken and egg here, too.
I agree that NHL players should have no need of a coach trying to motivate them. This has even been stated by former players on analysis panels. However, if they are not motivated to play the right way, it is 100% on the coach to try and turn that around. And as much as I like some of what Gallant brings, this seems to be a failing of his.
Same goes for style of play. Yes, it is on the players to stick to the game plan and not rely on East-West play. But, it's certainly on the coach to knock their heads and get them back on track when they stray.

Never thought an NHL player would mock another for a clean hit. Athanasiou had his head down while going near blue line... A BIG NO NO since hockey was invented. Instead of mocking Trouba for not scoring a goal yet and trying to justify his $8 mill salary, how bout ya just keep your head up!!!? Stevens, Pronger, etc..made a living at doing this, and making guys have alligator arms, knowing that they could get crushed if they werent more aware. Not to mention, if you go into a hit with less than a 100%, the "hitter" is at risk getting hurt. Perfect form...Shoulder into chest! These hits do so much more than stop an individual player, on an individual play.....it gets in the heads of opponents. AND.....Trouba has NO problem for dropping the gloves when another player has an issue w/ the hits. NHL needs more of this...not less.

I'll start this off by agreeing with you that Athanekahjdflkshadlkseau is a clown for this. However, there is merit to the idea that reducing head injuries is an ongoing and evolving discussion. Luckily, no one was hurt during that play. Hits like that, from Trouba and others, while legal, have resulted in concussions. If there's a practical way to fix that then i am for it. We don't need more pain pill addicts or CTE patients killing themselves or others, or just suffering for the rest of their lives, in the name of a game.

A technically legal hit can still be predatory and/or needlessly dangerous

Saw that yesterday. I just laughed. You can take Athanasiou's comments and apply them without mocking or irony and they are simply true. Trouba has not produced on the scoresheet and as the captain has to find other ways to have an impact. Correct. What are you complaining about??? Keep your (frank)in' head up!

I don't think anyone wants to see more concussions, but if a hit that makes contact with the head and torso at the same time is made illegal the eventual result will be contact only allowed along the same lines as the women's game.

The operative word in my post was "practical". There's an inherent risk in playing the game, and i wouldn't advocate for something like banning open ice hits, but if I took the time to think about it i'm sure i (or people like... the DoPS) could come up with something approximating a practical way of limiting the damage. I'd bet my life savings that people had similar feelings about how the game would become unwatchable if measures that have since been implemented were... implemented.

I don't disagree with you. And wasn't trying to say your thoughts were off base. I certainly don't have the answer to the problem.

Quinn would bench kids, not the vets that deserved to be benched.

He’s been known to do that. You have to know when he’s on the ice, and he got me there.
Then you should have been aware. That's Trouba's job to get into the opposing player's head, clearly he's done that.

There is only 1 way to stop concussions in the NHL...turn it into women's pro hockey. Besides that....juts keep your farking head up and keep those elbows/shoulders down upon contact...simple

The NHL Department of Player Safety has proven time after time that they actually do very little about keeping players safe!
