I guess it depends on what you're looking for. As an older fan, I haven't seen the Flyers raise the Cup since I was a kid. Younger fans have never seen it. Entertainment is not enough for me. I have seen plenty of seasons where I was able to watch one player for entertainment. I thought that Forsberg and Gagne were entertaining to watch when the Flyers finished last overall. Do you think Edmonton fans are still fulfilled by all the entertainment that McDavid and Draisaitl provide when Edmonton fails in the playoffs again and again?

As customers and consumers of the product. I think we should raise the bar higher than just being entertained with our demands and expectations of the team. Maybe then they will actually change.

If the wheels are turning and I feel like we are heading in the right direction, I can forgive a lot. The era of Giroux taking over for Richards with the cast of Simmonds, Voracek and Schenn being the focus of this team was very entertaining. It looked like we had a direction…but it led to nothing.

Funny you should say that. The Wild buzz blogger just said the Wild should talk to Fletcher to try to get Frost. The blogger said he would fit nicely into the Wild’s top six.

It wasn't a direction so much as a forced reset due to cap considerations from Ed Snider's "never again" which resulted in Bryz.

Along with that, and Bob getting dumped, and Homer not knowing how to build a defense (Grossmann, Kubina, JVR for Schenn, etc)... that G/Simmer/Jake era really didn't have a chance. They could have been something special if they had just kept Bob and added an actual good two-way dman or two.

Ditto Homer's original "Center City" core of Richie/Carts/Lupul/Hartsy/G. All the "Dry Island" stuff was just a soap opera distraction for the real issues of weak goaltending, weak defense, bad cap management. Even the addition of Pronger couldn't fix those issues, and ended up causing more problems down the road for them.

I currently have such a disdain for the management of this team and their extremely flawed, dinosaur philosophy, that losing actually makes me feel good. Each additional loss further invalidates their "system". The problem is if they start winning it justifies their thinking and perpetuates this flawed and extremely BORING on ice product. I'll take youth, speed and creativity over waiver wire grinders with structure any day of the week. Can you imagine what Tortorella would do with Hughes

Torts handling of Gaborik before he was traded to the Kings has to be one of the best examples of old school stubbornness of coach vs. roster talent. Gaborik immediately responded for the Kings with a 14 goal performance and a Stanley Cup.

Also see Patrik Laine under Torts. He tried to turn one of the best perimeter snipers in the game into a net-front power forward lol.

Pre-Torts, 68 pts in 63 games.

With Torts, 21 points in 45 games, multiple benchings.

Post-Torts, 56 pts in 56 games.

I would bet most coaches have examples of players that seemed to produce less or play poorly under there guidance.

He's been trying to turn Noah Cates into a 2 way center.
