I'm sure Hughes isn't dumb and will be having this kind of talk with Monahan, if he didn't already. of course trading him is a possibility, but I'm sure keeping him is also still on the table, you want that kind of guy on your team to support the younger guys.

Team is still a few years away from being good, Monahan is 28yrs old, coming from serious hip injuries, UFA next summer, expected to ask for 6yrsx6M...I would wait and continue building the pipeline.

If he stays healthy all year and keeps up his current scoring pace, I think someone gives him more term and takes the risk.

4 years, 5M per is something I'd do if everything remains positive.
