The really sad part, I typed it right in the “key word lookup section” and on the highlight reels. Brain damage strikes again

Wings were sloppy all game, too many bad pasess, missed opportunities, give aways and Ned was leaky on the first 2 goals. It makes me wonder if it would be a good idea to send Ned down for a conditioning stint in GR. I read it could be done if he agrees to it. They have to mic up Sunny more often! aybe it would help Bert's game to be carry the mic, Ha ha!
Copp got a nice assist on Sunny's goal!
It would be nice if the Wings were able to put together a complete game.

Thanks Jeremy another nice recap. Good to see the boys comeback but they can’t keep digging those holes. Perron is so consistent night after night. Raymond looks out of place with out Dylan and I hate to keep beating on Bert but he looks bad. Does not seem to do any of the dirty work, is a step behind the play and is having a tough time catching passes. I don’t think he belongs on the PP right now. I’ll take the point but we should have ended up with two.

Do you think Bert is physical or mental or both? Agree on Raymond

Oh the passes. They were so bad. It’s like half the team was testing a different stick. Ned needs something. The room is getting better so someone needs to touch base.

Buffalo better stop giving up room on the ice late in games. I don’t care who the opposition is you don’t give them any respect.
Buffalo better grow the attitude of “ you stepped on the ice, your fair game”.

Never give up the line. If a players fool enough to come down your side, plant your blades and givem one across the shoulders with the blade down and watch his head bounce off the ice when you hear that plastic on ice sound as the puck slips off his stick.

Just don’t try to get into the heads of your opponent, you get into the heads of all your opponents.

NO RESPECT!

I think it’s both, physically he is not 100% and that shows as his timing is off and he does not play the same tough game he did last year when he worked hard at retrieving pucks in the corners. Mentally he is making bad plays passing to players who are covered and missing his defensive assignments. Maybe that has to do with missing so much time and now it looks like he is hurt again.

It’s time to give Hellberg a shot the next time Husso needs a night off.

I almost turned it off last night. All the issues are well-documented above, not gonna re-hash the bad. We know it was bad. Could've closed it out in regulation...

Can't expect this team to win every game. I'd offer last night should've been a W in regulation; Ned let in 2 that I think he could've saved. Is what it is.

2 things stand out:

1. Ned needs help. Whether it's mental or physical, we won't know unless he tells us. Watching him, seems mental based on how jumpy & reactionary he was. Felt like he was waiting to see what the puck trajectory was going to be before he moved. That's mental if you ask me.
2. Bert isn't Bert. He was on fire when he hit the ice after injury last year, he's not doing that this year. Maybe the threat of injury has taken hold in his sub-conscious, I dunno. He's taken a beating in his NHL life, might be catching up.

Bear-Grin showed he's a rookie, but deserves a spot on the big team. Period. When Fabbri & Vrana come back AND get into game shape, we're going to be a VERY good team. Very. Good.

Great come back, happy for the play but should've won it in regulation.

Gotta say, just a touch violent. Wishing the level of violence where a player "...hears(s) that plastic on ice sound..." indicated injury-inducing play. Can't support that having dealt with a pretty wicked concussion recently. It alters your life, and the life of those around you.

Now, play dang hard? Yes, please. Make your opponents play with their heads up because they know you're shutting them down? Yes, please.

But advocating play that most-likely results in injury? Cannot support that, my friend.

I was so disgusted when the score was 4-1 I turned the channel for a bit. Turned it back and saw they were back in it at 4-2 and controlling the play well.

Take-aways from this game:

Ned was terrible (again). Those first two goals were soft goals that shouldn't have gone through. If he'd stopped those two goals the outcome could have been a lot better. He's just not tracking the puck well. He was very good in the shootout until he got undressed by the last shooter..

The time to give Hellberg a shot is NOW. Give Husso a rest and let Hellberg try a couple games. Him and Ned can duke it out for the backup job. My patience with Ned and his inconsistency... is gone (this goes back to last season).

Sundquist was awesome... Hope him and Copp can generate some real chemistry on that line and keep it going... at least until Soderblom is back. Then Lalonde can reunite the Redwood line of Soderblom - Rasmussen - Sundquist and see if it clicks again.

Seeing the Sabers have complete control of the puck for the entire overtime was annoying and frustrating. Wings are a better team than that. While I'm glad the Wings responded and came back to tie the game... their overall lack of team defense is still a big issue. The power play was 0-7... not going to win many games with that crappy performance. Special Teams are still an issue for this team.

My big takeaway from the game was how bad the passing was. Lots of just batting the puck or wrapping it around the boards when there were clear outlets. The worst was how soft direct passes were. They were half the speed they should have been. They had so many wasted opportunities to get the puck out of their zone. Detroit is really bad when the other team is cycling well, they almost go into a box and start watching as fans. They aren't good enough to overcome wasted passes.

Sabres are developing a gross habit of careless play in the last minutes of games. Committing a ton of dumb penalties, taking their foot off the gas. I was stunned to see them get to overtime to be completely honest.

The only reason the Wings didn't win is because of the following:

Every time a player steps on the ice no matter what level of the sport there’s a chance of injury. Some minor some major.
You love the bone crushing hits when your players delivering the hit, especially a sport like football. You love those hits but do you write about how they shouldn’t be made? No, you go along with the rest of the fans, you high five.

Before your concussion I’d bet you loved the big hit until it happened to you. What I suggest is how to make the hit without getting a penalty. Blades up it’s high sticking, blade down it’s legal.

If you want soft sport I suggest you attend and watch badminton.

Wholly agree there's inherent risk in any sport. However, advocating hitting to unjure, or the perception thereof is unacceptable.

So appreciate your assumptions if what I like in sport. Foitball is not a sport I watch, but not because of hit...I advocate, and always have, sportsmanship. Hitting with intent to injure is policed (often based upon perception...), which is a good thing. And seeing players check on opponents when a hit is severe is good to see. Hockey has a way to go to address head inuries.

If the original poster was advocating hits with intent to injure (which was how I read it....and if I was wrong, I'd gladly apologize for the misinterpretation...), then the poster was wrong.

Cheers.

Yeah, he was awesome last night. Rough game for Wings fans, but you guys had a ton to be happy about. Your team has a boat-load of talent and will make some serious noise very soon; not a team to be taken lightly!

Here’s what I’ll never forget when it comes to this. The clips are still floating around out there. Bettman stated (around 90s) “we sell violence”. Then the emails that led to the concussion settlement “is it that people get brain damage from head trauma or that a certain type of person is predestined for that”? The NFL suppressed Will Smith’s concussion movie forcing stations to block the ads. A few of the the players on the line in football came out after concussions were given a more definitive meaning. One said, “if that’s the real meaning, I get concussed 10 times per game”. It’s now being investigated (UK leading the way) on the damage of bare knuckle boxing vs gloves. Padded gloves seem to be way safer. However, they cover a much larger area and some of the lab tests are a little nuts. I’ve watched parents scream at their 10 year old kids to bury some other poor kid. A former AHLer watched a dad jump down and beat his own kid in front of the team for not playing hard enough. There are very separate cultures who are watching this game now. The helmets aren’t made for direct hits. The first time you put one on it’s almost painful. If your brain touches the side of your skull, it is likely going to bruise or concuss. Since there’s all fluid, O2 can’t heal those bruises. Its’ the same as if your heart hits your rib cage. Sly Stallone let Dolph Lundgren hit him 3 times for real in Rocky IV. His heart swelled to near double the size because it hit his rib cage. We know more now, but it’s always been violent. What I didn’t understand was why some of the most physical players did fine for a long time and others fell to pieces. I’m all for bringing the “bear hug” back in, but those helmets need a shock absorber between the shell and the head padding. That makes them bigger though. LaCrosse Helmets have a better design but, can’t see the face as well. I’ve learned a lot of this the hard way. Sports are changing, but violence sells. The Roman Theatre didn’t stop until almost everyone was dead. Now, a game doesn’t stop until someone needs a stretcher. Pav was physical, probably the strongest core of the team. Just used it differently.

Absolutely spot-on with the rise in concussions. The military is now hot on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) assessments and clinics, base-lining some Soldiers & conducting routine follow-ups, and football helmets have radically changed in an effort to curb the incidents of concussion, but the rise in diagnosed concussions continues to rise. The "science" seems to be all over the place.

The bottom line is, intent to injure needs better policing. Too many athletes end up like Junior Seau, and that's horrible. Many athletes now are agreeing to donate their brain to science post-mortem (Dale Earnhart, Jr., etc...) in order to try & gain a better understanding of brain unjuries. Regardless of what is done to prevent head injuries, it comes down to enforcement of pentalties for "targeting" type events, and people being human v.rabid animals. Encouraging injury, parents being bumholes to their kids, fans extolling the virtues of head-shots & overtly supporting athletes that target others, etc... creates an environment where this crap continues.

Look, I played rugby for 19 years, including a few years at the Army-level, and I was in combat, so concussive events were routine. Hell, I couldn't even begin to guess how many concussions I may have had playing rugby; I just chugged a few beers at the 1/2 time break and went back out. So when I see head-shots, I get concerned. When I see fans hyping dangerous play just to see people injured, I get pissed. People need to understand what life is like post-concussion; it's horrible. Hell, Jeremy, look at what you've been through. And belive me, I can directly relate.

If I mis-interpreted what the poster said, I will apologize. But it's concerning that people pay no attention the ramifications of these types of injuries. And to just blow it off with gross generalizations is just as bad.

Just my 2 cents.

Ah... didn't know that. Then he cleared waivers... which some of us didn't think would happen. It's a luxury to have an extra NHL level goalie in the system. I'm going to watch the Griffins play on Wednesday. Maybe he'll get the start and I can see him play live. He's going to need some actual game play to some degree if the Wings need him sharp & ready for a call-up.

Ir means 10 games or 24 days, right? Glad we have a good pool of call-ups in GR, Czarnik looked pretty good when he played a few weeks ago. This is really going to hit Bertuzzi mentally....
