Why were the Kings in such a hurry to give 3 years 15 million to a guy coming off a .895 save %?

This guy REEKED of getting 2 years for 6 million TOTAL as a "prove it"

He was pretty solid prior to the deal, while Quick was declining. Now Quick is the more consistent. Petersen is now in year 2 of being very inconsistent.

They didn't sign him this past offseason after he finished with a sub .900SV%. He signed it in September, 2021 and he finished the 21/22 season at .911SV%. Blake figured he was on the rise. He was wrong.

You shouldn't reward players for potential. That's something that Lombardi understood and Blake doesn't.

Unfortunately, Lombardi also believed that you should over-reward players for past results... and that cost the organization for many years afterwards.

True, but that's just being honorable. If, for years, you're a tightwad and promise your players that you'll reward them after they bring results, and then they uphold their end of the bargain and bring results, you have to uphold yours and open up the wallet or else you were just a liar. Also, it's better to enjoy success and then overpay for it than to cross your fingers and hope that you eventually get what you paid for. Would any of us really care if kids like Vilardi, Kaliyev, Byfield and Clarke eventually get $13M contracts if they deliver another couple of Cups first?
