Is Chychrun the right guy if you are thinking about next year?

Big body. Big shot. Maybe?

I keep thinking you need a Marc Methot type body/player to fill out the top 4 with Chabot, Sanderson and Zub.

Not opposed to trading for a great player looking towards next year. But, it needs to be someone that you can keep in the fold for 5 years...and a Cup run.

I agree Spatso. I think a guy that can play with Chabot and be GREAT in his own zone is huge. Or we can clone Zub.

What was wrong with Demelo? I really liked that guy. Who else is out there?

When we getting a new blog??

I know, I know - work, family, being an adult, Twitter posting more of a priority, the plague, impersonating Batman to keep the scum and villainy of the National Capital Region at bay, so many legitimate reasons...but when your posters write more content and analysis on the Sens than the OP does over the course of 3 weeks, there's an issue.

Is it going to be the ongoing trend that every bad loss is followed by a blog while every win streak is ignored ad nauseum? Fans here deserve better, especially given we can see the shadow accounts the OP uses still posting continuously and miraculously always supporting whatever post or clapback the OP says in the exact same writing style and using the same lines of argument.

Look for the patterns, everyone, it's fun.....

I would like to see a player like Matt Roy targeted. Only $3.15M with a few years left on his contract, 27 years old, big body, solid the PK and a good defensive RD.

Two of LA's goals, the second and the third, should have been saved. Talbot being mediocre again and digging a nice hole for the team that didn't start well but still come on - stop the friggin puck.

Plus you're not winning a lot when your bottom six has Joseph, Motte, Kelly, Brassard, Gambrell and Watson in it. Then you've got DeBrincat neutralizing your second line and that's all she wrote.

brown was going to be too expensive to keep, he was going to ask for 4.5-5M per, in paul i guess dorion did not want to give himn a long term contract and so traded for whan he though was a younger version of paul but as we see joseph is more a 4th liner who had a hot start with OTT (like Mete did when OTT got him on waivers)

They didn't have to keep Brown past the deadline and Dorion would have easily gotten more than a 2024 second for him then. In the meantime they'd be a much better team. I've said it many times that this team is too young to win anything but they could have shown some nice improvement.

Paul was only asking for 3 or 4 years at about the same money Dorion gave Joseph. I knew Joseph wasn't any good by watching him in Tampa and I'm not even a scout but it was obvious. Tampa obviously knew that as well and they had no problem extending Paul for even longer than he wanted in Ottawa.

Kevin hang in there. You are a quality person and after a few of us met you in Alberta last year when you were out there, the way you treated us and trusted us sharing stories the way you did, you are such a quality individual. My buddy’s and I still talk about that night out. Sending you positive vibes, stay strong and my condolences.

Don't mean to troll but you have an AHL defense skillset and have no clue about team defense.
Combine that with just OK to blow average goaltending and it explains why you are where you are.

yes, he plays because he hits, that is all he can do is hit and that is more important to smith than skill, speed or scoring

I have always advocated that you create depth by adding top players and moving existing players down the depth chart here they belong. You are on the right track brining in Debrincat and Giroux. However, Dorion did not hold existing players very well. There is something to be said losing Brown, Paul, and Formenton, and not really replacing them with the same calibre of players. This teams bottom six is as forgettable of a group as I can remember.

With that said, in the instance of Nick Paul, while Paul has played well in Tamps. He's playing on an established team with solidified coaching. He was a 20 point guy in 50+ games in Ottawa for 3 seasons, then all of the sudden gets traded and his production increases. To me, that is in part, coaching and playing with better players. To me, it's no coincidence that several players are playing better out of DJ Smith's house on new teams.

Having one d-man on this team go down to injury (in this case Zub) creates almost an AHL calibre backend. Your team needs to be able to withstand injuries. They are going to happen. The lack of a complete defence core was seen as an area of need in the offseason, even by Dorion, himself. It's too bad the hype of the offseason, clouded some fans judgment, myself included. There are some coaches in the NHL that can create effective game plans when they have key injuries and are still competitive/as good as they are with the player(s) in the lineup. DJ can't seem to do that.

The start of tonights game was a joke. This team just cannot get up for games consistently. The come out flat and hope things go their way. They have an awful time creating their own luck. Will coaching solve this? Maybe not. Does it hurt to try? I don't think so. Dorion can at least try to get someone else try to work with the mess that he has made.

I'm a big Travis Hamonic fan (as a person). He was a solid D-man with NYI, good with CAL - but man, what the F*** was Dorion thinking when he thought HE was the guy to round out the top 4 this season.

The system can be blamed, Coaches can be blamed, no doubt the GM is to blame - no development from Brannstrom, Thomson, JBD - where at the young D! Yes injuries played a role

But man. Goal #2 Hamonic is right in front of the net. Goal #3 Hamonic is right in front of the net. He doesn't know how how to cover properly with Sanderson going towards the puck carrier. The 2nd goal NEVER should've happened. That was a 1 on 2 and entire LAK was changing! Like WTF. We think this team is a playoff team

Bottom line is they need a BIG time improvement on D otherwise traded away some pieces including DeBrincat and go for it in 2023-2024

Yes, it really isn't rocket science. Despite having added a Calder-quality young D-man to the roster, they're an even worse defensive team so far this year than last year (for both GA/GP, PK%), have a persistently incompetent coach, and lack the offensive consistency to outscore their problems. They're also a Jekyll/Hyde group, based on whether all of Chabot, Zub, and Sanderson are in the lineup. Case in point...

Chabot, Zub, Sanderson in the lineup
11GP, 7-4-0, 39GF-30GA, +9 Goal Differential (3.5GF/GP vs. 2.7GA/GP)
Wins against BOS, WSH, ARI, DAL, ANA, LA, NYR (avg. opp. record 12-10-4)

Min. one of Chabot, Zub, Sanderson injured
14GP, 3-10-1, 38GF-53GA, -15 Goal Differential (2.7GF/GP vs. 3.7GA/GP)
Wins against PHI, BUF, SJ (avg. opp. record 9-14-3)

Basically, when the big-3D are healthy they've beaten multiple playoff-quality teams such as BOS, DAL, NYR, and LA, have a +1.8 goal differential swing, and project as a 104pts team. When they're down 1 or more of their big-3D, they've only managed 3 wins against a trio of non-playoff teams, are both offensively and defensively worse, and project as a 41pts team.
