Gio has been the best signing, id hate to see what the d would look without him. Im sure its no coincidence that the d have improved since hes been in the locker room. - Fakepartofme
Gio has been amazing. Interestingly, the turnaround coincided with Liljegren’s return which allowed Keefe to pair Brodie with Holl. Holl has continued to play well and Benn has turned out to be far better than expected. Sandin has turned things around some as well.
Today will be a test and Brodie’s return (hopefully soonish) will be big.

We see they are not good enough yet to hang with these teams (6-12-1), so when they start to play more bottom teams and get some wins, the storyline will shift to ...they are figuring it out.

I was just reading a Marleau article about retirement, coaching his kids, etc. and the amount of "brain drain" we've experienced over the decades is pretty astounding. So many NHLers have retired in the US that it's only a matter of time before USA Hockey dominates. We're not there yet, but give it another 10-15 years...

We just need to convince their white athletes to play baseball and Canada will never loose out to the US.

Not bad at all and thank god for the loser pt. Most teams including the leafs would at .500 or about 1 game above.
Only 4 dominant teams so far that arent propped up a bit by the loser point: bruins, devils, the islanders (back to being good, that will drive some nuts lol) and knights.
Without the loser pt the leafs would be 1 game above .500 and tied for 6th overall in the league (albeit in a league of mostly 1 game over .500 or worse teams) which is still really good considering all their injuries.
Hopefully their attention to playing d doesnt change when we are fully healthy

It's a bit disingenuous to look at it that way. If they removed the "loser point", teams wouldn't play 3 on 3 to win. They would play to tie - or at least to remove chances for it they resulted in odd man chances against. Most proposals that gain any ground is the 3-2-1 points system where you are still rewarded for being tied at the end of 60 to encourage teams to go for it. Most people would prefer to get rid of the shoot out - or at least extend the 3 on 3 by 5 more minutes, but I believe the PA is not in favour.
I believe so far this year there have been 64 games that have gone to overtime, and 46 of those have been resolved in the 3-on-3.
The thing is that 3 on 3 - like the shootout - isn't reflective of hockey at all. 3 on 3 is fun to watch, and it's exciting, but if a team employs a too strict of a system they are boring AF and if a team doesn't they are the Leafs or the Oilers, although at least they employ the "Get the puck to Connor" strategy.

Definitely good the Leafs have been very difficult to beat in regulation.
