Analysis: Fantilli has been off to an incredible start to his freshman season, looking like the best first-year draft eligible in college hockey since Jack Eichel. Fantilli is a player who looks like a pro and it is easy to imagine him becoming a great NHL player. He’s got a huge frame, skates well and competes hard. He wins a lot of battles and isn’t shy to use his big frame to lay out opponents. He has legit high-end skill and can make incredibly skilled plays at full speed. His playmaking is good, not as good as his skill and power elements, but he can make difficult plays while also being a shot threat too. He has the potential to be a star No. 1 center in the NHL and his season to date has created intrigue and debate around the first overall spot in this draft.

Still, he’s a game-breaker, as any given shift for Bedard at the junior level can lead to a highlight reel. He has tremendous individual skill and creativity, while also being an elite passer and goal-scorer who can make highly skilled plays at an NHL pace. He’s the most imaginative player with the puck on the ice while also being a goal-scoring threat from the dots. Bedard is also a highly competitive center who forces turnovers and is hard on pucks.
