You would have to wonder what team would be willing to take Quinn Hughes and OEL or Myers? With OEL's NMC I don't see him being traded (Buyout). It would be like a shoe store that sells ice cream. It would also kill the return for QH.

Since we need to suck this season and next, we need to keep OEL beyond this season and then look to buy him out. No sense buying him out before another lost season. Let him eat minutes so younger players can ease into the league.

Also the fact that he isn't being carried by his line mates. He went from playing with SHL players to playing with kids again. Kids from his own draft class. He isn't the play driver, he's the goal scorer.

Unless he decides to start playing hockey the right way and not just be a passenger. He won't have any success.

The draft you want is this year. With the trades this year (if they are serious) you can pick up two more first round picks maybe a Dman that is NHL quality. Clear the cap space and go shopping in the offseason. That is what a quality management group would do. That said we have a management group that is worse than the last ones.

next year becomes development, you don't draft this year and expect anyone outside if our top 3 pick (hopefully) to make an impact in 23-24. Keep OEL to eat hard minutes for a season and then buy him out. saves 1 year of penalty as well when we are actually competing.

Ya, but we know you're not like the idiots who would devalue pieces like Hughes and Demko just to dump some cap. Really OEL is the only trade asset with negative value that is worth dumping. Myers has value (prob only a 3rd, but value nonetheless), Boeser, Horvat, Miller all have value. Trade those 4 and you free up over 26m in cap next year and no need to use it other than to weaponize it. Even if Miller can't be traded, that is still 18m in cap and will be replaced with ELC's or players we get to help teams in need (and get assets for our troubles)
