we're a lot less practiced than those philadephians

They were on our thread for weeks because Islander fans had a better shooting% with rubber snakes.

Alex Holtz, Kevin Bahl, and Nico Daws have been recalled from Utica.

*Daws is just insurance for Schmid as he's feeling under the weather.*

Yeah right you guys are going to expose this team for what they really are, a bunch of cotton headed ninny muggins.

Putting Holtz on the 4th line isn’t “giving him a chance.” I’m happy for the success we’ve had, but one thing we’re (frank)ing up big is Holtz’s development.

He had 51 pts in 52 games with the AHL last year. There’s nothing for him to prove at that level.

NJ isn’t giving him the proper opportunities he deserves.

Vitek putting up a dud isn't exactly how I would've liked this game to start.

Will be interesting to see how deployment of lines moving forward. McLeod is a mediocre player and you can really see that that line was being carried by Bastian with him being out. Boqvist continues to play really well and the ice time needs to reflect that.

Eh. I’m fine with Holtz on a line with Bo and Shara. They’re not bad players. He’s supposed to get PP2 time too. There’s really not room for him on the team this year anyway with how Bastian and Zetterlund have stepped up.

I remember being on the fence for a little bit too at the time and then was a little anxious for the first 2 years. The wonderful reality is he hasn’t even peaked yet. Nico too probably. Half our team hasn’t peaked lol.

But what to do with Tatar this off-season..

Tatar has been really good. Just depends on what the contract length he's going to be looking for because reupping on 1-2 year deals makes him a low risk option. I think you're more likely to not see Wood/McLeod next year as some team will just pay them more. We have a ton of expiring contracts though so potential for the team to look very different next season, especially at forward.

It’s not only who you play with. How much time you get is a big part too. He had 10 mins total and only 15 seconds on the PP tonight. I really don’t want us to trade him for some 28 year old scorer just to go somewhere else and ball out b/c they play him more than 10 mins a night.

I’m not saying force him into the top 6, I’m just pointing it out now while the numbers are fresh so people on here later don’t act like he’s ever been given a real chance to develop in the NHL.

Still doesn't seem real to me. I know we're getting better goaltending, but everyone seems better. It's like everyone is faster and more cohesive. Having a healthy defense all season has definitely helped. Our worst defenseman is Smith and our 2nd worse is freaking Severson.. this helps. Helps with defense but also with transition. And no one is a pylon. You can't tell me Subban wouldn't be the 7th D on this team.. and I suppose Smith would be the 8th.
Gotta think Vanecek, Marino and the new assistants are THE top 3 reasons we're this good. Severson went from being on the top pair 2 years ago, to the #5 guy. What a massive change of depth and talent. Yea the forwards have taken another step this season, and Haula > Zacha, but I rank that after Vanecek, Marino and the assistants.

That's what happens when you're the youngest team in the league lol, players grow, improve, and get better. But yes, goaltending is by far the biggest reason of the improvement in the standings and its not even close. As was said all of last year, "#JustTheGoalie." Going from the dead last team save% in the league to 4th best and -0.846 GSAx/60 to +0.387 GSAx/60 is massive. That's over a full goal against per game lol.

Everybody said "if the Devils just got league average goaltending" they'd be in the wildcard race. Well, the team is getting above league average(and in some cases great goaltending) and they're well above the wild card right now. If they had non-poop goaltending last year, this seasons jump wouldn't seem as drastic as it is, because they were good last year too even with all the injuries.

This team is just flat out very good top to bottom. Any and every way you want to look at it, they're among the best in the league right now. Obviously this current pace isn't sustainable, but there's no reason they can't be in the mix for the division title wire to wire through the end of the season.

Subban couldn’t even be a 7th dman on any team in the league. That’s why he retired.

If it means we’re playing that well then I’ll take it. I guess I’d prefer to be a 6th seed that catches fire right at the playoffs. Those teams always scare me cuz they have the underdog mentality. But if we’re good enough, hopefully it doesn’t matter.

This team will have two devastating injuries come Christmas. Don’t go home with hope.
