From Bruins: “Tomas Nosek suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left foot Thursday, January 19. He will be reevaluated in approximately four weeks.”

Koppanen has been fine, but great opportunity here to see some others from Providence, plug and play.

Wagner
Lauko (been heating up lately)
McLaughlin
Lysell
Beecher
Steen
Lettieri

All worthy of a look.

Apparently, they are calling somebody up before the road trip. Will be interesting to see if they go with the safe choice in Wagner or they give one of the kids a chance.

McLaughlin recalled for the extra body on the road trip.

Good choice. Hopefully he sees some action.

Horvat to the Isles …

Not only am I glad he’s not a Bruin (Don’t think the price was worth it), I’m also glad he went to the Island and not Carolina/Toronto etc.

Next.

Yeah that’s also a steep price and big push for them to squeak into playoffs

No doubt. Imagine being him and finding out you’re going to the Islanders and not a contender

I would head to free agency this summer.

Kind of a weird trade, doesn’t really help either team get better 🤣

Yeah...no idea why he would go long-term with Isles, but I guess he can get 8 years there vs 7 years on the market..

More rumors about gavrikov today. Apparently trying to shed some salary but the cost could be a first-round pick which would be odd for a depth guy?

I have zero interest in Gavrikov. Would be a massive overpayment for a depth guy to get “just in case”. People forget we also have Reilly and Stralman who already check off the “just in case” box.

I think they either need to swing for the fences and try for a guy like Chychrun who is an upgrade over a guy like Gryz and would be a part of that D core moving forward, or go cheap with a guy like Schenn for extra security in the “just in case” department.

Gavrikov is too expensive for what he’d be on this roster.

Agreed, Chychurn is the play if you’re trading premium assets. There is the thought that Gavrikov would get an extension upon the trade and that’s part of hold up but that is something to be seen. They like that defense prospect out of Ohio State

The Boston Bruins have been the most complete and consistent team in the NHL this year. But they know a Presidents' Trophy doesn't guarantee playoff success, and they're still looking to add. They're plotting something potentially big. Other teams have told me that the Bruins have called asking whether they'd take Craig Smith ($3.1 million cap hit), which would help them clear space.

Although Boston has monitored all of the big names, including Timo Meier, its biggest need is on left defense. Ideally the Bruins can find somebody with size, and who can play with Charlie McAvoy -- which would bump Matt Grzelcyk down in the rotation. They've been monitoring the Jakob Chychrun situation for a while. I have heard from multiple sources that the Bruins have had advanced talks on Columbus' Vladislav Gavrikov but perhaps are waiting to do another transaction before they can consummate that trade. And if Gavrikov doesn't work out, I believe they have contingency plans.

No fkn way on Gavrikov at the price that's being talked about

Prices are being reported as the following:

Chychrun: A 1st round pick and a prospect equal to a 1st round pick, or a pair of 1st round picks.

Gavrikov: A 1st round pick and a 3rd round pick.

Schenn: A 3rd round pick.

To me, it’s either all-in on Chychrun or give up the 3rd for Schenn, which with Reilly and Stralman both on the farm, I don’t deem as necessary. Don’t see where Gavrikov fits unless they trade for him and flip him to Arizona as part of a bigger deal to get Chychrun.

I would not part with either Mason Lohrei (Ohio) or Fabian Lysell in any case. All other prospects are fair game.

Fantastic move.

Always HATED Hathaway, dirty fk, so I'll probably like having him. Orlov is a very good player obviously. Hate dealing with Caps but it's good. Another 1st gone is all.

Interesting. Not sure if Bowers has NHL upside, but he’s 23 and a former 1st round draft pick.

Sneaky move here, Sweeney trades a career AHL goaltender in his 30’s in Kinkaid for a young center. Providence was working a 3-man rotation between the pipes which was not ideal so it also clears up that logjam.

Don’t know much about Bowers, but not much not to like about this deal any way you look at it. Question is, why did Colorado do it?
