They are worth every single penny...and MORE. The fact that we're online talking about them, that over the course of a season millions of people pay to see them perform live, and many many millions more watch on TV, is just part of it. How many professionals do you know that started perfecting their craft in their backyard when they were SIX YEARS OLD??? and how many of the successful professionals that you know drove in the snow at 6am to go perfect their craft 5days a week....when they were SIX YEARS OLD???!!! On top of this, they have to be the cream, of the cream, of the cream, of the crop, and THEN, after THAT, they have to be at the right place in the right time to get noticed, and they have to avoid all of the distractions that come with adolescence and the teenage years and stay focused.
This is probably my biggest annoyance in life actually...people whining about professional athletes that get paid because YOU mark up their value, which they deserve 100%. It is one thing and one thing ONLY....jealously.
Pro athletes are worth every. single. penny. - JLO961
I swear there are guys who just sit around and wait for somebody to sign just so they can post how overpaid that player is

Huberdeau is not the better player. Gaudreau is better defensively and a better goal-scorer. He has a higher GPG than Huberdeau. They're not THAT different though overall.

I guess you never watched Gaudreau play in the D-zone. He was allergic to hitting or blocking to defend the play. His idea was to be in a lane and hope that someone else defends, gets the puck back and spring him. Just happened to play with Lindholm, who excelled at it. Then again, Sutter didn't expect him to do much other than stick check if he had the chance. Other than last year, he was a real defensive liability. This coming from a fan of the player.

This is the dumbest post I’ve seen on this site in a while. No one is saying pro athletes aren’t worth paying a ton of money. They are saying that relative to their value and the market rate, these are overpayments. That is a very big deal in a salary cap league. - Dahlmanyotes
If that's the case then I indeed missed the context.
It's a soft spot for me when I hear the "athletes are overpaid" complaint, which probably led me to that misinterpretation.
thanks for pointing it out. |

Maybe Huberdeau will be inspired, and be a scoring machine, that being said I think they should have stuck to a five-year contract due to his age. Does he have a no-trade clause in his contract? If he sucks his contract will be as hard to get rid of as the Panthers with Bobrovsky. |

I'm just annoyed that bull crap Huberdeau extenstion stole the thunder of NJ resigning Miles Wood for a season. Now that is the move we should be talking about. |

Agree! Lots of people aren’t worth what they get paid. Just be happy it’s not your $. - K-man25

Huberdeau and Gaudreau are on a similar level i would say. The only variable here is how Hubbie is going to do under Sutter. I feel like at the end it s going to be a struggle. Gaudreau had Tckachuk to bring what Sutter likes . Huberdeau will be lonely |

I like how the BuzzCast kept repeating that Huberdeau is only 1 year older than Gaudreau. So what's the big deal folks?
Where to start?
First of all, Huberdeau is only 2 months older than Gaudreau, not 1 year. But maybe someone would like to mention that Gaudreau's 7-year deal starts today...Huberdeau's 8-year deal starts in 12 months.
In the final season, Gaudreau will be 35 years old. Huberdeau will be 37. That's a huge difference. Production often drops heavily by age 30-32. Some stretch that out and remain excellent to age 34-35. By age 36-37 most become Zach Parise, Dustin Brown, etc...Like Toews scoring 35 goals and 81 points at age 30. By age 34 he scored 12 goals and looks like he belongs in the AHL. Details... |

If you want to talk about overpaid athletes, then all leagues should be forced to pay 3% of their revenues towards local homeless shelters/social workers - all players take a pay cut to make it happen.
But if the market rate for a player of his caliber is $10.5m/year - that's simply capitalism, revenue growth, & inflation. |

Sutter likes back checking and Gaudreau was good at it and so was Lindholm... it took Tkachuk a lot longer to get the hang of Sutter hockey. Huberdeau will have Lindholm who was the second best player on that line. |

This is why fantasy sports has ruined the game for me. Every kid and his dog are now experts at contracts, and melt down when a player is getting paid with someone else's money that won't affect them in the slightest.
Cgy is a tough market. We don't get the stars others attract. And the flames don't sell their entire team off to ensure a number one pick. I don't care if Huberdeau is making 7 or 10 mill a year. Gaudreau was awesome, Tkachuk was stellar, but they didn't want to stay. Who would we have signed next year as a UFA that is on his level? Or even within 10 yrs? No one, be honest with yourselves. He's a great player, and a star. Lock him in, enjoy the show, and hope for the best. Buy an extra beer next game to calm your nerves, and cheer a little louder to enjoy yourself. If he's 37 and can't produce anymore, then we may have a few rough years. But we gain those few good years back now instead with him on the team.
Chill. |

It may look bad in a few years. But Darnell Nurses contract is awful now and he hasn’t even started it yet. It will be worse than Huberdeau’s by a country mile. - TurdFergeson
Nurse is in his prime, and will get better. That being said, I'll agree he's overpaid. Huberdeau's contract will end miles worse than Nurse's. |

Huberdeau, cause he wants to be in CGY. Little Johnny is too soft for Darryl & the playoffs. He we fade away to a nobody in CBJ. |

Wow you really are sad, but at least you’re dedicated.
Why have you dedicated your life to trolling some guy’s website. After all the vitriol you’ve posted, why in the world would you ever take time to listen to his podcast? There are other things to do on the internet besides consuming all the hockeybuzz content.
Are you Eklund’s angsty teenage son? It would explain a lot. |

I spend a few minutes a day posting here. Would hardly call it a life dedication. I rarely listen to the BuzzCast, but decided to listen while painting a bedroom. Had a pretty good laugh. Ek was wearing a cowboy hat and Russ called him Tex. That was funny. Then they tried to describe their most memorable moment...Kevin said it was the 1987 Cup Final in Edmonton when the Nilsson-Messier-Anderson line scored a clinching goal. Ek said he also remembered it well. But then nobody could actually remember who scored it. I think it was Nilsson. No wasn't in Messier. Oh wait, maybe Anderson. I do remember the line was flying down the ice. In reality...Anderson picked up the puck at centre following a turnover. He raced in and fired a long slapshot. There was no tic-tac-toe. Nobody else was flying. I was in the building that night. That made it 3-1 with about 3 minutes left to play. You'd think if it was your most memorable moment you'd have a few details correct... |

Huberdeau is better overall, but Gaudreau contract is better.... but the fact that Huberdeau wants to be in Calgary and Johnny doesn't, makes the argument pointless and irrelevant. |

Thanks....It's also the coach's job to work with the new players. Just like when JT left the Isles they found the way with a veteran team. |

Without a doubt Huberdeau is head and shoulders better than Gaudreau. Calgary did will getting rid of the Tkachuk drama and getting Hubie. Sadly for the Flames they lost Gaudreau and Tkachuk and only got Huberdeau as star power. This blog really should have been who is better Tkachuk or Huberdeau? Gaudreau walked for nothing. |
