I still think Dylan Strome is a bizarrely overlooked underrated player. He may not be a #1 Center, but think he's a solid #2C. This season he put up 48 points in 69 games, 22G on a crap team.

If MIN truly can't hold on to Fiala, they should be all over Strome. I don't mean that as a Fiala/Strome swap. It doesn't make sense for CHI, but just saying, he should be MIN's target and probably very affordable for them.

Well if Buffalo is really in this game I don't think to many teams could beat there offer if they so desired. Just don't think they are playing here.

Of course. You're talking about the guy who turned down Shania Twain. His hammer is longer than a Tool song.

Can an acquiring team officially talk to Fiala at this point? I understand backroom deals/handshake deals and whatnot--i.e., the stuff EK is privy to and which he shares with us on this site--but does the CBA prevent a negotiation for a new contract with Fiala by a team looking to acquire him from the Wild? Depending on the ask, it might be a bit rich to give the Wild that much for what might only be arbitration rights.

Asking for offers makes sense. Nobody is going to make an offer unless they have a pretty good idea of what they can do with Fiala as it relates to both term and money.

My guess is that teams that present an acceptable offer will be allowed a phone conversation with Fiala's agent before any deal gets finalized.

Wonder if Winnipeg is doing the same with Dubois?

Important to note that there are not many teams that have the cap space to make offers for all the RFAs and UFAs that might be available this summer. The cap has really hit hard for some teams. Smart teams with substantial cap space might be wise just to wait and see how the landscape unfolds. They might find some great bargains come the 1st of August.

The Wild can allow other teams to negotiate with him if they choose, which may make the market a bit easier for them and drive up competition.

But otherwise other teams would be tampering.

So Fiala has a lot of leverage, here. If the Wild get an offer consisting of a B prospect and a 1st, another offer of a 1st, and then another offer of a 2nd, Fiala can signal that he won't sign longterm with the teams making the first two offers, but only sign longterm with the team making the worst offer of the 3.

Happens quite a bit. A guy wants a certain team and gets permission to talk extension then Gets traded there.

Not really. Assuming Guerin is even letting interested teams speak to Fiala....Fiala is still going to have no idea as to what those a team is offering MIN for him.

He really doesn't have any leverage. If (hypothetically, of course) the Coyotes are offering the best package, even if they know Fiala doesn't want to sign there, then Guerin can still trade him there. Probably won't be the case because no team is going to offer up a ton for a kid that they have no guarantee will stick around....but it still doesn't really give Fiala much leverage.

Carolina recently gave Ethan Bear permission to test the market, in advance of him agreeing to a contract with someone else, to facilitate a trade. Maybe the Wild gave permission to Fiala's camp to do the same, but not publicized?

In a sense. The Wild can also say there has to be x much value offered for you to be able to talk to him as well. Then go from there.

For sure. The implication of a lot of articles I've read on this situation poses it as Guerin making a big ask. I'm not sure the market for Fiala is that great if he has a limited number of teams he'd sign for longterm. I'm sure he recognizes his leverage. Otherwise, he's an expensive, 1-year rental for a team that can't secure a longterm deal for his services.

Would love if PIT got in on this..Fiala FOR Marino/Peterson, 1st, Poulin?

Not sure if that would get it done, but if it's close PIT should be aggressive imo. They can dump Zucker to make more cap room if needed for this season.

Would definitely welcome his talent on our roster, but would need agreement on a long term deal before giving up any worthy assets. Would be great to see him on the second line for the next 5+ years

Come on Verbeek....

22nd overall / Comtois and 2nd in 23 ..

Wild need picks with that cap penalty crushing them for next 3 yrs... and a solid young F. on a decent contract.

Not sure the price is too much, but the Ducks make a lot of sense for Fiala.

Fiala & 24th pick for the #2 could be a good trade for both teams... if DEVILS can talk with the agent and get something done.

NJ looks like the best trade partner for the Wild with 3 good young centers. and the #2 OA.

Doubt the Wild make a trade without getting a good C in return. I don’t see Comtois beating out any of the projected LWs.

Perhaps a goalie prospect instead, Clang and picks... We can only offer 3rd line C or wings or unsigned D LaCombe or Ian Moore... as top 2 C aren't going anywhere.
