Clearly, that's what Fletcher said. Giroux didn't hold the players accountable.
Explain to me how a team captain holds other players accountable? What mechanism does a team captain have to hold other players accountable? - MJL
lol, unbelievable you cant understand this with how much other stuff you know

Ok, you tell me how a bunch of talented professional hockey players come together on the Flyers and don't hold each other accountable? The captain IMO sets the tone for the rest of the team. Yes Giroux worked hard and lead by example, but its crystal clear to me he did not hold players in the room accountable, it just was not in his personality, and that spread quickly to the rest of the room. Its not all on Giroux, its the other veteran leaders on this team also, they have played a role, which is why I hope the next captain is Atkinson or Ellis if he could ever get back on the ice, we need someone from the outside to set the new tone for the team to follow. - jd250
"Accountable" is a silly buzzword used by hockey morons to make themselves feel smart. You can't make a player like Risto good at defense by holding them "accountable". His hockey IQ is what it is.
The problem with the Flyers has been how few actually talented hockey players were in the bunch. |

Again, I want you to tell me how the captain holds other players accountable in the room? We'll start there. If a player does not fall in line, what does the captain do?
There is no player on the team who can come close to setting the tone that Giroux set for over a decade.

Spot on! If there is an issue in the "room" it is a symptom of the issue. Not the cause of the issue. With any team that struggles, there is going to be frustration and negative emotions. Spilling over between teammates. The way to fix it is to become better.

Is there a point in time where the Flyers can do anything about the Ellis contract?
Would the player stay on LTIR basically until it is over? |
|
|
|
The whole Ryan Ellis situation is becoming laughable, much like the Flyers organization in general. Why is Fletcher still allowed to make hockey’s ops decisions? If this goes south quickly next season, I hope there’s a massive house cleaning! |

If he is physically unable to play then yes. It would be like the Pronger situation.

That’s got to be the worst trade in history for all parties. No one got an NHL player out of the three way trade. And I know it technically wasn’t a three way trade so spare me. - ClaudeFather
Nashville did fine in this trade, they got out of a 6.25 cap hit for 6 years. |

Use the off season overage allowance and sign someone else, then LTIR first day of camp I guess...or save the money and tank again....
You play keys right? Work coming back for you?

Yep Chucky foresaw that Ellis would have a multiple injuries he never had before all at the same time. He also knew that his #1 center would be out for a chunk of the season as well as his # 2 center. He also knew his best young wing would get hurt as well. He doesn't even know how to draft, i mean look at Minnesota, there is no one on the that team still playing for it that he drafted.
There was nothing wrong with the trade. He got rid of a players that just had no future on this team and maybe in the league.

Why is it laughable that a player is injured and may not be able to play? Happens all the time in hockey.

They'll also be able to dangle Myers in trade or buy him out since they'll get a cap credit out of it. |

So, if they got out of that cap hit, who got in on it ... are you saying that Chuckie ended up on the wrong end of this too?

I hope the PK coach is back. Penalty kill was ace last year. - PLindbergh31
Wasn't the PP and PK alltime franchise worst. Still just a average 5th as result. 😵💫 |

Ellis was on LTIR basically all of last season. So if it is determined that he will not be ready to start the season. He can be placed on off season LTIR and they don't have to jump through those hoops.

Well, Fletcher did not try to better the Kings offer by including 5th overall for Fiala. No issue with it. Just waiting to see if the pick will be Nemec, Jiricek, or Gauthier. SEA is truly the unknown at this point. Pretty confident Wright, Slafkovsky, and Cooley will be the first 3 picks (order TBD). |
