Look it hasn't been good and that is on Fletcher. I think there were circumstances here that were completely out of his control with Covid and injuries, but now this franchise needs to take a step forward, and if they don't Fletcher will be the next casualty.
- jd250

Even if Fletcher is the next casualty, they have Briere lined up to take over. Or let’s even assume that they go outside the box, and choose to go external.

There is a hell of lot wrong with this team, with a lot of departments involved. Advisors as part of this mess. It’s going to take ownership to understand they need to mandate change at all levels.

Bringing in a new GM, that has to play nicely with all of the old guard won’t amount to much. Especially when the old guard will have influence on the hiring.

It’s really a Dave Scott level of problem. A guy who doesn’t have a hot clue.

Hextalls final grad MEH, he cleaned up, 1 core player trade short of the right rebuild and his prospects are just ok, hence the MEH grade

CF current grade F+, with the final grade coming end of next season.

Hextall did a lot wrong, and one cannot really blame anyone for wanting to look for a better GM.

It’s very true though, that he left the team in a much better position than Fletcher has. Fletcher is a great example of why it’s nothing but absolute stupidity to over rely on FA, or trades to build a team.

I mean the AVS only had 6 players who were drafted by them on the cup winning team.

You don't have to rely on FA if the players you draft are filling big roles. This is why I think the Patrick pick has hurt the Flyers so much. If he develops and is taking the steps forward then most likely there is no Hayes signing.

If Provorov shows that big step forward after Niskanen retired, well then there is probably no Ellis trade.

The lack of draft picks becoming impact guys is what has caused the use of free agency in my eyes.

I mostly agree, but CF came in at a different time, a time when prospects should have been contributing and adding would make sense, after Braun and Nisk it just didnt work out. Hexy added JVR, CF adding Hayes, same grade so far, in my book. But if Hayes can give us 3-4 years like the end of last season, it will grade out better. Hexy cleaned up, while he had the disaster to clean up, he also had the grace of not having to have a good team while doing it. I mean he had G, Jake, Scheen, Simmer, Coots, Ghost and #7 pick in Provy, cap challenged but he had talent on the roster, at that time in the NHL, the right kind of talent, he failed to improve upon, no other real way to look at it. Hexy wasn't paid to clean up, he was paid to build a contender. He should have moved Simmer with Schenn, easy to say now.

JVR and Hayes, both good proven players, both deserved to be overpaid, issue is both Hexy and CF chose the same type of player, big but not great skaters or elite skill.

None of them ever prioritized skating enough, just didn't.

My issue is with Fletcher. As much as I believe Hextall should have been allowed to see his vision through, this mess is a Fletcher/Hextall tossed salad…all over the floor.

Agree to all of it. Just can't understand why Fletcher hasn't been fired yet.

They fired Hextall because the team wasn't good enough fast enough. So how did he have the grace of not having to have a good team? You don't just instantly build a contender. First the clean up has to happen. The grace that Hextall didn't have was a patient and realistic management. As Bill Meltzer recently pointed out, the Avs quest took 13 years.

I had hopes for Fletcher after he acquired Niskanen and Braun. It was clear Ivan and Sanheim were hung out to dry by the prior GM. He saw this and addressed it.

Figured maybe his 2nd GM stint he learned some things from his first stint. Well he didn't and is the main reason they are where they are currently.

Defend to the end you fraud.

He had a good core to work with. He blew it by not building around them or by not moving them.

Bill, not trying to be snarky, but being a fan my entire life I genuinely can't think of season where injuries did NOT play a huge part in the Flyers not winning the Cup, post 1975.

I know you have this stuff memorized, do you recall a Flyers team with the potential to win it all that didn't have injuries to key players? I seriously can't.

Because they made a grave mistake in giving Fletcher dual roles. Now, there's only one guy he has to answer to, and unfortunately, that guy thinks Fletcher is doing a fantastic job, "best front office he has seen".....

I’m not sure who believes them regarding injuries at this point. Only a moron.

It’s never any fault of theirs apparently, and after the history that’s nothing but bullpoop.

Paraphrasing:

The issue is all over his middle and lower body and he is working hard to put all the pieces back together. Things could go real well, but they also could not. Ellis hopes to be ready at some point but things have to be taken in steps and there could be setbacks, or things could stall. He is on schedule according to the doctors but that could change

etc etc etc etc
