Give Letang 9mil 5 years. Tell Malkin to kick stones.
- Grinder47

Why would they tell Malkin to kick Mark and Michael?

And just like that, the last competitive hockey you guys will have seen for the next 10 years will be the game 7 loss to the NYR.

Since the rangers win the Cup once every 54 years, 2048 is just around corner!

Rangers fans aren’t exactly experts on competitive hockey so your comment is invalid.

At least we came away with three cups during the Sid era and well, winning in THIS century.

Once again Buffalo Boy all you do is criticize and abuse. What have you ever done? For a change give some answers like if Malkin leaves who do they go after?

How about you taking some of your own advice. What would you do? This is a discussion board, not a female dog rag.

Well, if any team's fans knows what it is like to be non-competitive for 10 years, that would be rangers' fan!

Totally random thought on if the Pens can't re-sign Geno...

I think an affordable player to target that let's them have cash to deck out the second line is Dylan Strome. I think he's a wildly underrated player. This year he put up 48 points, 22G in 69 games on a poop team. For perspective, Trocheck put up 51 points, 21G in 81 games and their underlying stats are pretty close.

I'm not sure what Strome's QO offer is, but I'd trade for his rights as I don't think it will cost too much. I bet the Pens can sign him for around $4Mish.

I think the money here would allow the Pens go after some guys like Nichushkin, Burakovsky or even Forsberg. I need to do a cap friendly thing here to see and it's likely the Pens would have to move Marino to get Miller, so he'd have to be adequately replaced.

Yeah but he doesn't deliver bone crushing checks....he sucks at defense...

He and Marino form a pretty good 2nd pair...that might be the 1st pair when the season starts

Very similar underlying stats except....quality of competition...somewhat jarring difference there.

Agree 100%. These are not hard to f-up.

In other thoughts...what would it take to get Fiala out of MIN?? I heard 1st and prospect...if that's all, I would be all over that. Maybe we can add in a Pettersson/etc to help with the cap room? Either way Demoulin and Zucker making combined $9.5M is way too much and they are UFA end of the season, dump them and use the money better.

I could definitely see all this gloom and doom talk about Letang/Malkin and day 2 of free agency they both sign.

The thing isn’t about delivering bone crushing checks, it’s playing completely and totally like you don’t want to break an egg. The Pebs roster is already filled with guys that do that.

Don’t think Sid retires a penguin if they Malkin and Letang aren’t signed…might as well trade him and Guentzal if this is the case.

They’re still younger than the old Sharks core was in 2016, so there’s the potential, even if it’s slim, for them to catch lightning in a bottle one more time.

Sign Letang at $8.5x5 and Malkin at $7.1x3 and call it a day. Hard to imagine a scenario they’re a legit threat to win a series, or even make the playoffs, without signing the two of them.

1. Pens have no prospects of note
2. Adding a guy you're cool with losing to "help with the cap" will cost you additional assets...GMs know a cap dump when they see one, unless they're Chuck Fletcher.

I think you could find a taker for Dumo. Someone will be tricked into thinking he's still a #1 pairing guy. You wont get much for him, but its more to free up space.

Zucker is making $5.5M next year. If the Penguins keep $2M of that, I think they'd find teams willing to take a 1 year chance on Zucker for $3.5M.

Unfortunately a Fiala trade is out of the question. I wouldn't mind seeing Hex do something a little different and go after another teams RFA. I assume Hex has a plan A-Z on what he wants to do. I hope Letang resigns with us soon. I think he should be priority #1. I am leaning more towards having Rakell as priority #2 to resign.

Personally I would sign Letang to his 8+ million contract, Sign Rakell 4.8-5.5 range, Sign Trocheck and a solid LW. (Cap space by trading a 4 million LHD). Then again if you get solid forechecking players like Zucker, Trocheck and Rust on a line that could cause some good pressure on other teams and force some turnovers.

Guentzel - Crosby - Rakell
FA - FA - Rust

I would also let our younger players like O'Connor and POJ to get their shots with the big club.

Even if Hex went big and signed someone like Forsberg for the 2nd line it would still be solid if we had Rust and him as the wingers or even Rakell and him. I know their will be a drop off in scoring without Malkin, but I do think keeping the first line and Letang together will help soften the blow a little. I think like many fans. If we lose a star player we would love to bring one back to Pittsburgh.

I could be completely wrong and hex could put E-Rod and someone else on the 2nd line. I could also be wrong with that and he could bring in Kadri, and E. Kane and make the 2nd line a completely different look compared to what is his norm. Whatever he does I hope it starts with resigning Letang and making us a younger solid team which can compete next year and years to come!

To be honest I'd like a bone crusher or two on the back end but not like plug mouth breather ones, ones that can actually play smart hockey and transition well with the Pens system...they're rare though.

I think Nick Paul would be a good get.
