Could use another starter if Kikuchi continues to be crap.

but also, cant note only the bad without some good

- senstroll

Oh for sure there's been good. Manoah has been superb and same with Gaussman. The part I'm most surprised is Berrios numbers thus far. He will be okay I do agree with the other poster, I just don't know when. It doesn't look soon.

Blair and Barker were saying that Kikuchi’s next start is it. Show something or you’re out of the rotation. It might have come come earlier if it hadn’t been for the heavy schedule. They also need some help in the bullpen. There are clearly guys that Montoya doesn’t trust right now.

Yeah it's been an odd start to the year. bats were quiet for awhile and now pitching has a few holes. Month away from trade deadline.

better to see/identify those holes now than after the 1st trade deadline as I call it.

Gausman and Manoah have been really good.. Berrios has been wildly inconsistent inning to inning, let along game to game. Stripling has had some good moments and Kikuchi has not been as good as anticipated.. There are some holes in the pitching staff and losing Ryu and now Pearson to injury needs to be addressed.. I am hoping that the Jays can add another SP and a solid RP to the mix... I'm not sold yet on bringing in the 39 year old Sergio Romo.

Kikuchi might be better suited to the pen. He has a 95 to 98 MPH fastball that he only uses about 36% of the time. His Slider and Changeup are the issue - they are being hit hard regularly. He only throws the fastball for strikes 52% of the time so hitters are laying off it. I believe Jays have only 3 wins in his 14 starts. Only other starter with a negative WAR is Berrios.

He throws 4 different pitches.

Cutter - 894 (34.9%)
4-Seam Fastball - 914 (35.7%)
Slider - 484 (18.9%)
Changeup - 269 (10.5%)

Hopefully but he needs to be able to come in and be effective right from the start which he hasn’t been able to do as a starter unless they just use him in mop up situations where games are out of control.

Hopefully Romo gets a few strikeouts here and there until some guys start to return. Slider and change up might induce a few swings and misses. I think he’s not much more than a fill in.

Fantastic live/jam band. John Mayer who is the current lead guitarist of Dead and Company is certainly in the conversation of best guitarists around these days.

He has one of the best fastballs for any lefty in the majors. Needs to work on location and coaches and catchers need to force him to throw it more often. Slider should be used less than 5% of time - its being crushed.

Every Blue Jays season includes serious injuries, and bullpen problems.

Bullpen always starts out well but the manager over uses guys and it's burnt out by midseason. Has happened 3 years in a row now.

Were I a reliever, I'd want nothing to do with coming into that.

I agree with all that but if he’s coming in from the pen, he can’t go two or three batters to get his poop together.

There aren’t enough guys he trusts in key situations. Starters aren’t going deep. A bunch of relievers are hurt and they’re playing some important games against Sox and Rays. It’s up to management to get him some help.

He continues to put Thornton or Richards in in key situations, so that doesn't fly. He's a buffoon with no idea what he's doing.

Starter tries going deep and literally begs to stay in and he pulls him.

Manager can only do so much with what he has.
some injuries and a few poor outings in a row for starters can really put a strain on the pen.

But i really doubt players would want to avoid a team where they think they will get a lot of playing time. id think they would want to pitch and not sit more

Starters aren’t lasting, guys are hurt and he doesn’t have much to rely on. And in fact, Thornton hasn’t been bad lately. They need another starter and arms for the bullpen - either trades or guys coming back.

I agree.. It's tough on Montoyo, when your starting pitchers(Kikuchi and Berrios) are not lasting more than 4 innings

That would be sweet.. That would put the Jays 1.5 games ahead of the Red Sox
