Outside of some of the higher level hockey ops hirings and recent administering of new titles, does anyone know what staffing changes have occurred lower in the scouting department prior to this draft? |

That anecdote earlier in the thread about LR skating right alongside his players during bag skates is a good sign. |

Saw the HOF class announced. When are they going to put Steve Larmer in? And why isn't his jersey number retired. He should have set the ironman streak record but the hawks screwed him on that one. - bjphawkfan
If Steve Larmer had a twin brother and he put up sam I decent production they would would have gotten the call the other day. |

ESPN has us the 7th worst team in the NHL for next season. if that ends up true that is a killer. that is basically what we have done the last 4 years. |

I believe they've added a couple of new lower level/regional scouts, but the main difference is that they've been asked to look for - or concentrate on - different player attributes. Apparently, it used to be heavily weighted toward skill, and now it is more speed, hockey IQ, relentlessness, and wanting to continually improve.
Here is a decent Q&A that goes through most of it.

Why is that a killer? That is what is expected. The Hawks just got a new GM, Coach, and are talking about trading away their best players if the price is right. Did you expect the playoffs? |

Is it? Shouldn’t there be separation between the coach and players? I have no idea if it’s a good thing or a bad thing? I’ve never heard of it before. I’m sure when the Hawks have a rough stretch of games next season some posters will point to that as a reason Richardson should be fired. |

I submit that the Hawks players have the lowest hockey IQ in the league.

my point is we need to be way worse that that, we were 7th this year. we have been drafting around 7 for 4 years now and have not gotten better or worse. We are about 25th in the league in young talent right now. and no 1st this year. if we draft 7th in 2023 then the plan is not going well. we should be competing for the worst record in the league with Kraken, ARZ and MONT.

Last 4 years:
2021 - had 12 traded to 32
2020 - 17
2019 - 3
2018 - 8
for good measure:
2017 - 29
2016 - none
2015 - none
2014 - 20
2013 - 30
2012 - 18
All the guys who were the most influential in those picks are all gone. If you can't find good value outside of the first three picks you are going to suck anyway. |

Probably, but they also have entirely new management. Let's hope they start this team in the right direction. |

I do not see any scenario where Kane's next contract is for less dollars per year than his current contract. - 35Tony0
We’ll, Ovechkin signed for $9.5M, so I can see Kane signing for about the same, if he’s still with the Hawks that is. |

For all that yearned for CAP space in years past, the Blackhawks have $20,154,167 of 'glorious' CAP space currently available. |

The Wings have been about as bad as you can get and they haven't drafted within the top 5 one time.
Arizona's last top five pick was 2015.
Being the literal worst team doesn't seem to mean a lot. |

Those post season rankings for the next season are nothing but click-bait.
There are going to be so many personnel changes with every team, it's impossible to guess where anyone ranks. More important is where they rank in October. |

I guess my next question would be what makes you think ESPN is suddenly all-knowing in hockey coverage?
Every year the Hockey News had a beginning g of the year issue and almost every year the standings look n nothing like their predictions.
They don't know our adds in the goal and if we can make a draft pick trade, so a little bit early to predict the next year standings.
You don't even who is in the net for many teams...
just saying. |

Hey Rico, what you bolded was hyperbole by me. He did minor tweaks, but in his "exit" conference, he stated he would definitely change systems. But I bring up why I think King got a raw deal is what I bolded from your comments. With what we saw before King stepped in, what more could you have asked from him? The other thing that impressed me was I didn't see anyone (rookie or veteran) take a night off, or quit. I also think he was quite good in trying to put the rookies in a position to succeed, not just throw them out there to the wolves. - LAHawk LA I agree he step into a pile of poop left by JC and bowman. He was alright but the one thing that rwal bothered me was his constant changing around the d pairings and line combinations. I understood at first why but it went on the rest if the time he was behind the bench. Seems like a good guy and communicater and didn't have enough nhl coaching experience imo. Maybe stays in some capacity in a different role.

Not directed at you. So the old management won two or three cups(depends whom you talk to),and the bolded are the picks that this old management had to work with, and yet many wonder why the Hawks currently suck. |
