To which two are you referring? Certainly not Clutterbuck or Martin? - Wildschwein
I assumed he was referring to Clutterbuck and Parise. Clutterbuck was in a contract year and playing well ........ until he got injured. Parise got off to a slow start, but really picked it up as the season wore on. |

I was happy with Parise's year, but continuing to recycle near-40 bottom six forwards probably isn't the best way to compete going forward. |

No sympathy for the Bolts on that one. They scored two goals on us in last year's ECF with too many men, including Gourde's SHG that proved to be the winner in game 7 - eichiefs9
Yes I get that and as an Isles fan totally agree. I was just pointing out how the NHL once again gets it wrong. They review off sides, goalie interference, etc. However they don’t review if teams are playing with to many players when they score. Not to mention OT winning goals. No matter who you route for it’s just bad for the game to have mistakes like this. |

Comical that Cooper complained.. the only reason he hasn't done it this year is he was called for Too many men 3 times for doing it in the Toronto series. - niteislander
It should be called properly regardless. Sad that games were and are decided with goals that shouldn’t count. That’s comical and sad imho.

Referees calling playoff games by an entirely different set of rules than the regular season is pretty stupid. I wish they'd just let them play like this all year long. Even later rounds get called more lenient than the earlier ones, it's asinine. |

It's pretty bad if Bridge cannot supply 4th line talent at this point. I also like Parise but Isles should have cheaper options at this point. |

ECL’s are $850-$900k and Parise’s contract has a $750k cap hit.
Also you don’t want a kid like Ratty coming up and playing 4th line minutes.
Additionally a lot of a “players development” is up to the player. You can lead a horse to water but …….. |

No not Raty but maybe Koivula? Just seems like an issue with a lot of young forwards and the Isles. JHS was a different case. Maybe the Isles are not drafting the right forwards or something going wrong with the development process? Other teams seem to be ahead in terms of young forwards and finding and developing talent. Dobson seems to be coming along well. Salo is a work in progress. I'm not sure if there are any other promising goalies in the system?

Agreed and the players and coaches would be on board. They would know what to expect game in game out. |

Very light on goalie prospects now. I have to think that Lou (and Barzal )will use a later round draft choice on one in this years draft. Hopefully there’s a Lundquist type 7th rounder. |

I also do not see Varly being moved. Bailey I can see being moved. I like Beau and would not be in a rush to move him. I think it was a mistake to sign Cal. That 4th line is running on fumes at this point. - ses111
Understand that I am not in favor of moving Varly either. I think past few seasons have indicated just how important a 1a and 1b are. The only reason why I said he would get moved is because their is a market. Trading him for space and assets might be Lou's plan.
I like AB as well. However he is inconsistent coming up wanting a long term deal. As much as I love him, this makes me want to move him before I get stuck with a bad deal.
Lastly, I agree with the fourth line signings. CC MM CC are out of gas... This should be a year of changing the guard.

The two many men call is an opinion call. The league allows too much leeway. That is why is it is difficult to call. Next we will be seeing a fargin box in front of the benches for changes...
If were Bettman I send Cooper a box of tissues and a bottle of wine.

Pierre-Luc Dubois informed Jets management of his intention to test the open market when he’s eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024.
PLD Barzal Wally there is your top line. |

I think Varly gets one more year on the Isles and then a new backup in two years.
AB is not untouchable but I would like to see it work with the Islanders. I think some of the young forwards like Beau are having trouble with the balance of being good both offensively and defensively.
The 4th line has done a great job but they have a lot of millage and wear and tear with their style of play.

Would be nice to find a young goalie that can team with Sorokin in the near future. Would help the Cap. |

Bingo! I have read a number of commentators suggest that, if they called the Avs for Too Many Men just before the OT goal, then they would have to call it a dozen times a game. |

I don’t understand why people keep saying you have to touch the puck in order to draw the penalty. I thought 6 players on the ice was too many men, regardless if you touch the puck or not. I think I saw one picture from that play that showed the bolts with 7 players on the ice 😂 |

There were clearly too many men on the ice to the point where the NHL tracking system and score sheet listed 6 players on the ice.
As Streaks has said you don’t have to touch the puck. Just that fact that there are 6 opposing players on the ice that the defending team has to mark is unfair and creates confusion.
The NHL once again looks ridiculous during the game and their lame excuse or explanation was more of a joke. There are certain inconsistencies with some rules that need to be addressed. |

100%, that said this year will probably be Varly’s last dance as you said in your prior post. |

It was called properly.. the guys on the ice changing had nothing to do with the play. The puck never touched anyone over there .. the Goalie just made a great outlet pass. It prevented the Boltz Defense from changing after a long shift and Kadri made a great move and scored. If you look at the picture when he scored there were 6 players on ice for Avs... and 7 for the Lightening... including an extra d-man who was about to come on but had to hop back over boards when goalie made that pass. .. it was a hell of a play..It wasn't a play like Tampa did last year where the guy scoring the goal still had the player he came in for on the ice. Cooper should STFU.

That was b/c they were in Tampa and the Scorer is a Jack arse.. u can see in the picture before the goal that the "6th" guy was already 1/2 on bench. |

If they are going to call too many men, they need to enforce it consistently. It used to be called mostly on player exchanges close to the bench. Now teams seem to try to keep the puck away from the bench area and send the guy going on the ice early while the player coming off is within a few feet of the door. Many times standing in front of it while the play continues up the ice. This happens countless times during a game. They either need to enforce it or keep letting it go. Based on what they've been calling, I don't think that goal was a penalty. |

1 year ago we were all hung over and talking about Beau's OT goal in game 6 and looking forward to game 7 in Tampa. |
