I think the Pegulas feel so burned by Skinner that it's impacting everything they do now. They aren't going to walk into that type of contract situation again, certainly not before they show any signs of contending.

That's an easy one. They had chances with Sam, Ullmark, and Montour. JB signed Larsson to a 1 year deal that took him straight to UFA. Lehner's deal was a catastrophe. This isn't fun.

Sam for sure. Not so sure on Ullmark and Montour. The latter especially was a head scratcher trade, I dont think he was ever good enough that a value deal could be found at term longer than 3 years. I totally forgot about larsson, although apparently he wanted to comeback and they just said thanks we'd rather have...Cody Eakin.

You're right, this sucks.

If they are steadfast in remaining gun shy about any kind of long term deals before they are certain they have a contending team, then enjoy Tage while he's here.

To say the upcoming season is crucial feels like a giant understatement.

It also at least somewhat feels like they may already be setting themselves up for failure in some ways.

With Adams current track record, a 3 year deal might as well be considered as a max term deal.

You can't sign good players to 1 year deals taking them straight to UFA. It's criminal.

This summer's a good time to start gambling on a few of their own guys. They're not committing to any other contracts of significance via trade or FA so they've got a bit of a buffer.

Im 50/50 on thompson but you have to have the discussion. I'd try really hard to get Cozens to sign some kind of team friendly deal though.

He had a laundry list of that sort of activity. Nothing will top letting Hagel walk imo. Just peak galaxy brain stuff.

He's a little tricky to look at. He won't hit UFA until 27, right? 2 years after this deal?

Sounds like a 1 year bridge.

Edit: Think it's 1 year prior...injuries + pandemic are tricky. I think his 1 game NHL season actually counts.

I thought he was a healthy scratch for a number of games in the 19-20 season, but the on the active roster rule is almost impossible to figure out as teams play games with that sort of stuff via paper transactions all the time, and I don't know of any site that tracks that.

I've reached out to CapFriendly and other sites in the past, and even they aren't sure.

Not really, Bergeron going back to Boston on a 1yr deal, and Smith has a agreement with Vegas on a 3yr deal.

Any dollar amounts out there for either yet?

Feels like both are deals that won't be finalized until their respective teams can do most of their other business for their team cap hits, i.e. sweetheart deals.

per spector

THE ATHLETIC: Arthur Staple raised some eyebrows in his roundup of offseason decisions facing the New York Rangers. What drew considerable attention was his report citing two league sources claiming general manager Chris Drury was “vocally unhappy” with Artemi Panarin’s performance in the 2022 playoffs. Panarin had 16 points in 20 playoff games but wasn’t as consistent as hoped for. Despite the 30-year-old winger’s hefty contract Staple speculated he could request a trade if there’s a rift developing with Drury.

this is rich since Drury only scored 8 points in 21 playoff games for the rangers

Colorado, CF has them at $56.8m with 14 players signed.

Using EH's projected contract for resigning their 9 RFA/UFA players on their roster to get to 23 players projects to $40.3m. (Used low values for 2 players not listed in EH's numbers post by Korab39)

That totals $97.1m.
Even that number may be low given Nichkushkin's performance in the PO's.
Clearly some work to do there.

Nothing on Smith yet...exactly to your point.
Berg = $6.8m incentive laden 35+ contract.
