Obviously something that would need to be worked on, and hopefully Donnie could help with that and playing with hopefully a good young team. - Buff36
I think the Pegulas feel so burned by Skinner that it's impacting everything they do now. They aren't going to walk into that type of contract situation again, certainly not before they show any signs of contending.

That means you're ok with $80M total on an 8 year deal? - kingcong39
i don't think his next contract will 10M/AAV. Closer to 8.5M. He can sign an extension long before its time to worry about his QO. Yes, I would sign him for 8.5. he is 24 and has done nothing but score goals his whole life. |

Could be, definitely seems that way. But the guy can put the biscuit in the net, and the Sabres could use that. |

They're probably so cheesed they have to give him a 7.5 mil cheque on July 1st |

His QO taking him straight to UFA is the only reason a trade is being discussed, imo.

i don't think he would get 8 years under the new GM. 6 might be the max, so i would go to 9 for sure on that deal and maybe a bit more.
Hawks have nothing but space coming. This isn't a guy who had one magical season. He is in his prime and paying him until he is 30 isn't an issue for me.
i am not sure what KD is planning. Hints are out there that Dinky may be the next captain so he is highly thought of by the org. He could be traded but as i mentioned, its going to be a deal that KD can't refuse. Short of that? i think he stays and signs an extension. |

nope. hawks are in a total rebuild. that is why any trade is being discussed. he won't be moved unless its a clear cut deal that helps the rebuild. hawks would have no problem paying him his value.
hawks have over 53M in cap space after next season and no one other than kane who would warrant any real percentage of cap space.
be even better if they can dump seth jones on someone.

Not condemning Skinner for using his leverage, but JB/Kim/Terry botched that as bad as you can.
Watching Sam force his way out, then sign a team-friendly extension had to hurt too.
Tough lessons.

I would rather go and get Vanecek. The only one is DeSmith that I would consider on that signing list. I really have not liked what I have read or heard. My hope is hanging by a thread. - Buff36
Had the chance last year when kraken wave him and sabres passed. Caps got him back |

or we could have Beady write 1 a week.
it would take the collective board a week to figure out what he is talking about.
or RSH could explain it I'm sure. - IonSabres

If I wasn't on 2nd shift, I would have already been the new blogger and no one would have even known. I just can't watch 90% of the games.
I'm not even joking, I would have been inquiring this whole time and already written an example blog or two for Ek/Hank to have a review and agree that if I wrote the Sabres blog for Hockeybuzz, it would be the place to be on the internet on a Saturday night at 11pm trying to make friends while being a b!tch about meeting up for a quick suck and (frank), a little blow and THIS hole at 1st and 1st if you know what I mean? - BeadyEyedDouche

I get the one year left is worrisome
Could double his salary and still wouldn't be overpaid
Does a 2 nd rounder get him - Anderdog

I’ve seen you say Cat was pacing x points during Covid twice at least, then say 20 goals is max from VO.. it was 20 goals in 54 games. I mean, do you feel disingenuous at all right now? Over the last 3 years VO is pacing 25ish goals per 82, 30/35 assists per 82 for a 60 point player per 82. I mean, if you can do that for Cat, you should also probably do it for VO.
I also feel obligated to say that in no way do you have to want to trade Cat for anything less than an overpay. VO, 16, and the 2023 is a good start, don’t see how you can say it isn’t. But you do you man. |

Not the right kind of partner for Power
He’s an “offensive minded” guy, and Power should be paired with someone much more defensively responsible that can cover for him when he makes his rookie mistakes - jdfitz77

I still wonder what would have happened in '19-20 if they had hired AV or Lindy or Grönborg instead of Ralph |
