If they can only stop drafting for current needs and take BPA it'll be a huge improvement.
- BashCH

Strip this roster down and bank picks over the next 2 drafts... some good pieces to build around already in place.

Yeah that's what I've been arguing... My post was pointing out after the Shaw trade we didn't have the picks to draft Girard or Debrincat.

One 2nd round pick for an unsigned Andrew Shaw that Chicago couldn't afford to sign should've been more than enough.

true, but to think the next GM will only be a puppet and that Gorton will call the shots... sorry I don't buy that one. look around the league, teams with a President of hockey ops. their gm run the show. sure it's a team work, but at the end of the day it's the gm who has the final word.

There are plenty of examples.wherw this is not the case.. Sather and the Rangers and Shanahan and the Leafs.

Eventually, the GM in Montreal will have the autonomy to run most of the show.

That will not happen in day 1.

(And also why Roy will not be GM).

Another example of "drafting for current needs"....

"Oh poop, Weber is retiring and we drafted 2903821 LHD during the last few years but no RHD...let's go with a RHD"

He did confirm next GM would need to be bilingual, if someone was wondering.

While I certainly would enjoy them going full 2021-22 Arizona Coyotes - more for the media entertainment value, than anything else - I am not sure they will go that way.

I suspect there will be significant turnover, but not as much as most of us would like to see. Some of that is due to contracts, others perhaps due to not getting perceived value for a player on the trade market.

i thought it was pretty amazing to see a 3-goal win where the final 3 goals were all into empty nets.

i've never seen that.

The only good thing about that suggestion is that Pete wouldn't have to adapt at all.

I think the Gallagher contract could be hard to move but they could find someone to bite... other than that, I suspect most Habs will be shopped over the next 6-18 months

We got two 2nd rounders for a breaking down Andrew Shaw.

Gallagher isn't worthless. Despite the contract.

He's not, the 6 years are a bit of a hurdle though, especially with the wear and tear his body has already endured

And it was a 2nd, 3rd and 7th for Shaw

Didn't he get some picks back when he traded him back and one of those picks turned out to be Romanov?
- Fredo

I don't think that's accurate without checking but even if it was Girard/Cat>>>>>>>>>Romanov

Molson said "new start", but never said "rebuild".

He might leave that to the new GM to decide (with Gorton).
I think those long term contracts are going to be hard to move. Then again, I don't think Molson likes the word "rebuild"

I think I'm equally curious about the new GM as about knowing who they will name the new head of amateur scouting
