What would scare me about Mathieu Darche as GM is that Jacques Martin used to put him on the powerplay...

What will Mashadar complain about now though?

Yeah, we already had a former fringe NHL player as GM...maybe try something else. Never seemed to me like the smartest guy as well...

to me, hurts is just a placeholder. he doesn't have what it takes. i hope they see that now and know they need to move on from him.

I think he has the winning "it" factor but lacks a lot of the tangibles. Basically if you combined him and Blaine Gabbert you'd have a franchise QB. "They" say it's a poopty year in 2022 for 1st round QBs, so those three 1sts may be better trading for Wilson, Watson or Rodgers...or can I interest you in a slightly used Jimmy G for a future mid round pick?

Shaw wasn’t a bad deal at first, he brought grit and character to the team, it became a bad deal when all the concussions rendered him an ineffective player but Bergvin couldn’t have known that at first. Besides, with the use the Habs made of draft pics they probably got much more out of Andrew Shaw than they would have from those 2 picks as sad as it is to admit. I’ll admit that he did give him too much of a big contract though.

I know we have the benefit of hindsight for these trades, but even at the time trading 2 2nds for a 3rd liner on a good team made little sense. Seeing Debrincat potting north of 30 goals for the Hawks for a character guy not nearly as good as Gallagher is as bad as it gets imo.

It's really important that we have a good evaluation of Laurent Dauphin and Alex Belzile

He was a huge favourite in the room as well and had a winning experience, i still like that trade. And the fact that once he became a liability health wise, Bergevin was able to flip him back to the Hawks.

That trade was god awful, no matter how you want to look at it. Even if you don't think Timmins would've made the right picks, doesn't make it a good trade.

He's already had a 41 goal season, scored last year at a 50 goal over 82 game pace and this year is on pace for just under 47 goals over 82 games.

He scores far north of 30 goals

They probably would have traded one pick for a 3rd and a 5th, and pick Connor Crisp 2.0 with the other.
- stinger67

Also, they managed to do the reverse in trading Eller for 2 second picks, so one good, one bad deal.

Also, Shaw without injuries was a good player to have.

Serious question.

Do the Habs fans really care if the GM is a francophone, or do they just want the best guy available?

- gravyface

I'd say 1/3 people really want a French guy, the other 2 just want the best guy for the job.

I agree he's a good candidate but my guess is Anaheim will be given right of first refusal...something of a professional courtesy or whatever

Also who in their right mind leave Anaheim to come in MTL just before the winter ?

Lol I was being conservative in my argument, but yeah I'm convinced this is the true worst trade by Bergevin that nobody talks about.

People are right to point out the Habs could have drafted Girard and the cat either way and they're right to point out that there's no guarantee the Habs use those picks on those guys.

Still, it wasn't a great trade

Except those were Washington's picks (later than us) in next year's draft. It wasn't like adding Shaw put us anywhere near over the top either.
