Maybe that was Wiesbrod's job but he got scared.

Dani Briere is rumoured front runner. Got to be French.

I believe the front runner is Matthieu Darche, with the Lightning

Everything is speculation except what he does on the ice. You can’t doubt his talent because he’s produced like no other Canuck has ever done. Talent wise he’s the best player this team has ever drafted and to give up on him now because of FA, JB, and TG is just beyond crazy IMO.

Many of us saw this coming, repeatedly stated our concern, then labelled as whiners. Oh well, there’s always next season.

It will really come to a head if they lose tonight in MTL.

I met him a few times when I lived back on the coast, very nice man, old school. Never understood why people went so crazy over the Canucks. Didn't watch games, called it "idle time".
- VanHockeyGuy

That's funny. Most reports have Francesco claiming his Dad is a huge Canucks fan and he wants to get him a cup before he passes away.

I don't know of too many players that come out that quickly in their career's and fade into darkness.
- manvanfan

Pettersson just doesn’t look like he is trying and doesn’t give a (frank). Just tries the same stupid shot from the right circle every pp and doesn’t do much else. If he was out there working hard and going to the dirty areas and out working other players it would be a different situation. He just looks like he doesn’t give a (frank). He would be the first one I trade. At least Miller/Horvat/Boeser look like they are trying to win.

He prefers to hang out at the farms in Pitt Meadows and Border Town an old western movie set in Maple Ridge. His mind is always on work and business, not entertainment.

I'm referring to 2012 with the sweep. Wasn't it again LA?

I'm saying, that despite winning the presidents trophy again in 2012, i would have welcomed a rebuild after 2011 and sold high on players then. I don't think GMs would have seen canuck players with the same value in 2013 that they did in 2012. if GMs see UFAs who make the finals and give them massive money, even if they are bad (Beagle, goodrow, Coleman, savard), I imagine they still value players who are under contract as well.

- Codes1087

So you would have welcomed a rebuild the summer after they went to the SCF and lost by one game, a team coming off a Presidents trophy win, who had sustained success for years, players in their prime, pretty much the same roster... that's when you would decide to rebuild a team? I just want to make I get this sure, because if so, that's insanity.

2011 = SCF
2012 = Lost to LA 4-1 in 1st round (after another Pres Trophy season)
2013 = Swept by Sharks in 1st round

I mean, it's really not hard to google "Vancouver Canucks seasons" and see what falls where so you can get your timeline right

Another week begins. No changes yet, and the Canucks are still losing.

I'm pretty intrigued by this matchup against Montreal tonight, though...

You are right, I meant 2012, but I don't call it hindsight if a person is saying back then that it is time to rebuild.
- Reubenkincade

Nah, I'm saying it's hindsight to say now when they should have rebuilt – especially if people are saying they should have rebuilt in 2011. Sure, I can get the argument after 2012. Would have been a bold move, but the age and staleness could be seen, and looking back it would have been the correct one.

A retool was required after 2012. It could have been relatively quick and painless compared to what we are seeing now. Even the players that were sold off, the returns were squandered.

We had a ton of vet leadership back then to groom the young talent. We wouldn't have had to overpay to bring it in.

Yes, I would have welcomed it. The canucks had spent all their picks and prospects on making the 2011 run. That roster was filled with players acquired and players in their mid to late 20s. The only young player/prospect was hodgeson. Everyone saw the direction the team would be in after Gillis spent every currency available to make the run. The cupboards were bare of both picks and prospects. This franchise should have cut their losses after the 2011, said "we gave it our all", and used whatever leverage they had in trying to start over. If the canucks had prospects and picks in the system after 2011, it's a completely different story.

Bure was awesome (the sole reason I became a Canuck fan) but didn’t do what EP did statistically speaking.

They didn't need a ton of prospects at the time, they could have had guys coming up every year and rebuilt organically without blowing it all up, just moving certain players. We've traded away so many draft picks since 2012 it's ridiculous.

Imagine the haul if they had sold high on Kesler, Raymond, Higgins, burrows, erhoff, Bieksa.

That still would have left sedins, edler, tanev as a "core".

Raymond, Higgins, Kesler as a 2nd line was better than most 1st lines. Those players would have fetched insanely high returns in 2012 after the 2011 run. It would have also set a good foundation for years

By the time Pavel was EP's current age he was one of the top players in the league and so much more exciting.

The rookie year is the only close one and even then Pavel had more goals in less games.
