He’s primarily offensive I agree. That’s why if he demands over 6 I think the leafs should let him walk.
That’s when everyone thinks I’m a fool apparently. - Dozzer
Well I think they should trade him and Marner and get out of cap hell and maybe add to the prospect pool.
They won't win a thing with those two anyway. |

Are there examples of playoff teams trading their #1 Dman at the deadline? “Hey guys good luck with playoffs and poop” - Canada Cup
Excellent point Cupsie, it not something that's done, other than suggested on HB. It is something that could be done though. Not likely the Leafs would be willing to make a trade that wasn't a perceived improvement though.

Well if Rielly walks because he gets $8M as a UFA, we get $5M in relief but can't replace him with anything as good or better without needing an extra $3M soooo.......we actually lose the Cap Relief game y'all are pretending is an asset. It's a liability in fact.
Do the same with Hyman.
Do the same with Andersen.
Letting players walk for nothing because you HOPE this is your year for the big win is the most asinine approach to managing assets.
Trade Rielly at the TDL if the Vegas odds a stacked in the Leafs favor then just pretend like he got injured and walked at the end of the season if it makes you feel better. At least you get some type of asset.
If the hockey gods want a Leafs Cup, then we should be able to get it without Rielly. I mean look how far the Habs went with the hockey gods on their side. - Barb34

That’s awful asset management.
They’ll let everything play out this year. And if they don’t win a round, this core is taking a hit. That’s included Dubas and Shanny being sacked. Nylander will be gone, Brodie and Muzzin will be gone, Mikheyev and all other experiments/reclamation projects will be gone.
Rielly and Campbell’s return will be based on how they play this season. If Rielly puts himself in the Norris conversation then he’ll get 9M and he’ll be staying a Leaf.
? Matthews Marner
Bunting Tavares ?
? Kämpf Kase
? ? ?
Rielly ?
Sandin ?
? ?
Campbell
?
That’s the team if they don’t win a round, and Rielly and Campbell play well. - Arctic_AARDVARK
It will be Matthews or Marner moved if someone else takes over. To immediately get the over 10 million dollar players down to 2. Likely the first move.
So no I don’t agree with your beliefs whatsoever

Hey Dozzer, if you get a sec, drop by the Raptors home opener tonight. Great crowd noise! - fifty__missions
That doesn’t impress me over a hockey games noise. More fans, no boards, cameras and mics closer to the open crowd, and on, and on, and on
Keep chirping me and I’m going to ban your ass, you’ve been horribly disrespectful to me for not agreeing with you and I’m truly getting sick of it. |

agreed, they should make the playoffs, that is not the problem. Leafs are build for the regular season, 3x3... but proof has been made they are not a playoffs team, certainly not a deep run playoffs team.
just the opposite of Mtl actually. - fidopro
Here’s hoping the new forwards, especially Ritchie and Bunting, bring a grit the team has needed |

Hate to say it but I do agree, I don’t think Rielly is dominant enough defensively to be truly paid like the number 1 guy |

they need so many things. goalie is a ?, defense, depth up front, grit, experience and leadership... that's why I say they are not contenders and that I would trade Rielly if he is not re-signed by the tdl. |

If the Leafs flame out in Round 1 again I wouldn't bet against Marner packing his bags.
If they get a whiff of AM34 not wanting to re-sign here I wouldn't bet against him being shipped off. |

He won’t get moved unless they’re not in a playoff position.
The team considers themselves contenders so until that changes don’t expect them to dwindle down their defence |

I'm not there yet, but it could be necessary yes. Marner I always said it, even when he was good. not the quesion. just the money need to be reallocated differently.
keep Matthews and Tavares, find them wingers who don't cost a fortune (hello PIT) and build a dcore and a bottom 6 who will make you win a few rounds. |

Yup, I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s held for another year, but if he’s unwilling to sign by July 1st 2023 they move him before his NTC kicks in |

If they trade Rielly, they might as well just sack Dubas and Shanny and bring in a management team that know what they’re doing.
Kadri was on a great contract and was a good 2C who could easily play in the top 6 as a winger, but nah let’s get Tyson Barrie a career -500 player. Let’s give away 1st rd picks to lose Marleau. Let’s let Hyman and Freddy walk and sign Ritchie and Mrazek to replace them.
Hindsight is 20/20, but they gotta be better at managing this team. |

It's pretty sad that Morgan Rielly is our stud #1 d-man. - mjones242
Leafs have the 9th best GAA in the NHL since Keefe took over. Factor in they did that with some shaky g'tending at times in that first year 19/20).
They've had the second best offence in the NHL during Keefe's time.
Hard to have too many complaints about the regular season performance. They've dropped the ball come playoff time - this group gets one more chance to fix that or there will be some changes. |

I feel bad for Marner, the only reason they (including his agent) got that much in his contract was due to demanding more because Lamoriello ripped him off. He probably regrets asking for it to be balanced out by this point. |
