Why trade Rielly when they can trade someone else? Zero chance they can replace Rielly. It would be a disaster if he leaves.

Dubas is married to his core. "For better or for worse".

Rielly is getting 8.5 minimum.

Maybe they’ll let him walk, but if they don’t try to keep their core, they’re just going to decline and Matthews will walk too.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Rielly isn’t strong enough defensively for that much imo

Also, I’ve seen him beaten to the puck by opposition forwards a handful of times this this year so far and that bugs me, one of his prime aspects is supposed to be a strong speed, but he’s hit the age where it starts to go downwards in many of them.

Rather let him walk and if not Sandin, look for another guy like Brodie to have a nice stable back end pairing and use Sandin, who is fully capable offensively, to be the PP guy.

Which Rielly is a part of.

Decisions have to be made. W/o Rielly, that’s the worst d-core in the league. I’m a huge fan of Sandin, but there’s nothing in the pipes.

That’s what he’ll get.

Someone will pay him that, and will go on a run. You said contenders let guys walk, but most add players like VGK and TB.

why would he get more than what Barrie got in EDM? similar players imo. a bit younger, good offense but weak defense.

Nope. Rielly predates Dubas. He's out. The writing is on the wall. Again, not saying I agree with how Shanny and Dubas have handled this.

In a cap world no one walks for nothing, you get cap space in return, which is an asset.

That’s not true, those two have both had years letting guys walk, TB this past offseason especially (they gave up 6 guys)

Cup contenders have to let guys walk plain and simple.

You can't replace Rielly with cap space alone. And you're diminishing the impact here - in a cap world it is also possible to get more than simple cap space in return. If assets are properly managed.

It would help if you won a round now and again. Cup contenders that don't win playoff series, yet still see players walking for nothing? When exactly has THAT happened?

Also, if you keep letting players walk for nothing.....you're not going to continue being a "Cup contender" for long.

That’s one hell of an understatement, he’s far more like Nurse, they were literally 1P difference last year. The only difference was Rielly had more assists and less goals.

Nurse can play defense, big difference.

This summer the leafs lost Hyman (who isn’t playing special so far this year, 1G, 1A, and is -3), Dougie Hamilton left Carolina (yeah that was 2 rounds tho), there’s quite a few others but I’m not doing a full blown research to prove that players leave teams more often than not these days

I never said I think they are, I’m saying they do…. Which means they act like one irregardless of their playoff success level

He’s primarily offensive I agree. That’s why if he demands over 6 I think the leafs should let him walk.

That’s when everyone thinks I’m a fool apparently.

What trolls? I quite enjoy the Nylander bashing and trade Nylander posts. Which lead to the Marner is overpaid and Reilly is as good as gone.

I saw Bob in '04 when he was on a tour with Willie Nelson. They were on a tour of minor league baseball stadiums. It was very very awesome. Lukas Nelson was playing in Willie's band then, before he got rolling on his own with POTR.

Lukas and POTR was backing up Neil at the desert thingee where I saw Bob. They were so good together, trading riffs. I love Lukas. He was supposed to be here when Willie came to town a few summers ago but was doing a Star is Born event. Trucks/Tedecksi played made up for though.

You talking about Reilly or how “offensive” the anti Nylander posts are

That’s what you consider mismanagement

Not all of us.

He’ll be nothing more than an overpaid 28 year old offensive d man who’s skating is about to slow down (like 99% of D)

Signing him big is the mistake. Let him walk.
