Apparently he's "saigne du bat".

You Habs guys get nasty in there.

"Bat" is a french slang word for Richard in that context.

Which one of you got the main thread locked??
- TurdFergeson

It not from here, it's angry Hab fans complaining to Ek, insisting the thread should focus on Montreal beating the Leafs in the playoffs rather than how putrid the Habs are.

All great points, I get why it's hard to be patient as a Leafs fan when we have been for so long and suffered through not having the top end talent etc. Now we know that the team can beat anyone and have that talent the expectations have increased very very quickly.

It could always be worse - look at the Oilers!

- Cush29

Yup, truth is we’re at the point that until the leafs win a series there will be fans who think both the GM and coach suck

Sad but true.

As for the oilers at least they have Hyman who has a goal, an assist, and is -3 after three games lol

He took a team that hadnt made the playoffs in years and lost its captain and best player at the time to the playoffs for several straight years. All without high draft picks.

I guarantee that had Dubas won GM of the year or if he ever does with the leafs....so many on here will going on about it.

- Fakepartofme

Ok not trying to be a douche about it at all (I honestly don't recall) but define "he took".....did he reconstruct the bulk of the roster and got them to the playoffs? Or (like some would say Mike Babcock did) did he inherit the good / hard work of others and ride a bit of a Cinderella ride in the playoffs like a certain GM who last year looked like the Joker in his suits?

Winning GM of the year is a nice award, kind of like winning your division or even the presidents trophy. I guarantee you most if not all NHL GM's would gladly trade in the GM of the year award for a Cup win.

Actually this is incorrect.

He said himself that after a year in Switzerland he personally became interested in fashion

- Dozzer

Its not incorrect.
He may have said that for sure and definitely is interested in it and it could be his shirt.

But when it comes to photoshoots, poses are at the suggestion of the photographer, obviously subject can suggest some, but that pose was probably at the photographer's request.
Clothes he may have brought, but most likely the shoot probably provided based on shoot requirements or Matthews suggestion as well.

Either way photographer will have him go through several changes and poses based on requirements and theme.

Agree with the bolded. Oilers look good so far, but lots of their success is because of their fantastic power play. Unfortunately for them (and for the Leafs) Playoff penalties are a rarity and while an axe murder is an axe murder in the regular season, it may well be a great defensive play in the playoffs.

The world is headed a different way with dress codes and creative expression with fashion.

Dont get me wrong, like pretty much all the NHL awards, the gm award is bs and I dont care for it.
Since he took over as GM, the Islanders have done a 180. His best decision being Trotz....Id have to dig up his trades and signings.....but Im sure he overpaid a bunch of players.

It’s his clothing apparently (the way he puts it anyways), I read an article once talking about it

But how dare you suggest something that you believe AS proof… I was told that doing that is ridiculous and nothing more then a guess by a poster named Fakeparto…… oh

Yup, totally right, coupled with the fact that a team needs its offence to overcome the stepped up defence

McDavid drew exactly zero penalties in the playoffs last year.

The NHL is a franking joke.

They barely beat 3 non playoff teams from last year. They don’t look good at all. Defence is awful and it’s all hanging on by a thread. Smith and the pp kept them winning these games. But they’re not that good.

"Sweet Lou" hasn't won any championships in a long time friendo.....he gets all this credit for what he did in New Jersey, granted I was all aboard the Lou Train when he came here too. Jeez I even walked over to the ACC (which it was at the time) and took a pic of his "Welcome to Toronto" pic on the jumbotron outside the rink the day he was announced (as I had an icy cold beer at Real Sports Bar mind you).

He handcuffed the Leafs with some terrible contracts and all the narrative about how much better the Leafs would have been if he had stayed is just that - insanely speculative narrative.

Who knows how he would have done negotiating contracts moving forward - he sure pissed of Marner with no signing bonus the first time. Terrible deals to Marleau, Martin and Uncle Leo - all the work of "Sweet Lou".

I'm not sold on Dubas yet but I am happy to see he has been willing to make changes to how the team is constructed to try and get success - time will tell if it works.

- Cush29

You forgot Zaitsev in the list of bad deals - and I'd also include the 2 year @ $4.15m to Bernier in that list as well. I'd also negatively point out that using the 31st pick on Korshkov was terrible as well.

But Lou had his good moments, and I'm willing to give him props for the following:

- Signed Hyman to a 4 year x $2.25m deal
- Signed Rielly to a 6 year x $5m deal
- Signed Kadri to a 6 year x $4.5m deal

He also made the following trades, which I give him kudos for:

- To Ana: 2016 1st (Steel), 2017 2nd (Comtois) for Frederik Andersen

That's decent value to get a solid starting goalie in his prime years. Freddie served us well, and all the best to him in Carolina.

- To Was: Winnick, 2016 5th for Carrick, Laich, 2016 2nd (Grundstrom)

Getting a 2nd for Winnick - regardless of the spare parts we got with him, was well done.

- To SJ: Polak, Spaling for Torres, 2017 2nd (used in acquisition of Andersen), 2018 2nd (Durzi)

So we dump Polak and Spaling and get two 2nds - one gets us Andersen and the other is used to net us Muzzin (under Dubas)? It's a solid trade.

- To Ott: Phaneuf, Frattin, Rupert, Bailey, Donaghey for Greening, Michalek, Cowan, Lindberg, 2017 2nd (Rasanen)

So we dump Phaneuf and his albatross salary and he can go suck in Ottawa and for that privilege we get spare parts and a lottery pick in the 2nd? Another good deal.

Lou also had a solid and smart strategy of signing free agent players that he had every intention of flipping at the deadline to maximize his pick opportunities in the draft - hence Winnick, Spaling, Polak, Matthias and on.

Ok. Ya I think it was me and about 20 other posters as well. But ok.
Your missing the point.
Turd suggested the pic screamed douche-bag...I just pointed out it most likely wasnt his idea to pose like that....so its not really on him (matthews). The sweater is just a sweater....I have no doubt it could be from his line.

Rachel Doerrie had re-watched all 4 games in that series and counted over 30 infractions agaisnt McDavid - none of which were called.

I watched the series, and I felt much the same way live viewing it. My friend, who is an Oiler fan, was literally drained. He had no energy to even put into being upset by game 3. The NHL is destroying its own fanbase.

They have the best player in the league, and Draisaitl is also very good. If not for incompetent management this team would be one of the best. As Wedgie correctly pointed out, McDavid drew zero penalties in the playoffs - that is ridiculous. No other team sport offers less protection to their star players than the NHL. If you blow a garlic breath on a star quarterback in the NFL its a penalty, playoffs or not.
