But Columbus was -50 in goal differential last year, and I’m not sold that the D or goaltending is any better, so as good as Shaw might be I don’t think a new system will help that much. This team is going to score, A LOT. They will be fun to watch. I’m not sure they will win more.

Their possession numbers will be better thanks to analytics. Columbus was pretty bad last season but they also got rid of half their top 6 and all their depth defence.

I’m just saying that Shaw wasn’t a household name as far as NHL fans league wide are concerned. Nobody was suggesting that the Canucks hire him, and after it leaked he was a candidate, and people did their own research, did the expectations increase.

I’m sure things will be better than last year. I agree with your tiers mostly and will adjust my guess in the final standings before the season starts.

Yes, the offense will be better this year. They will be more fun to watch. That is reason enough for optimism. I’m optimistic this season won’t be a train wreck. But missing the playoffs isn’t a failure to me, given where the team was last year and the year before.
