From what I've read on Power by people who have watched him play multiple full games, he's a a pretty safe(by draft standards) bet to develop into a top pairing caliber dman, but there's definitely question on whether or not he'll be that legit #1 workhorse type. You also have to wonder if people just start to nitpick more with a guy who's been ranked as a top 2 pick for this draft for a long time now, kinda like Ekblad back in the day.
- Nucker101

Picking him number 1 you probably want to make sure he's going to be the best player or at least a top 3 player in the draft.

I agree I don't see him as a real true #1 D. I think most have called him a "top pairing" guy.

He played top pairing in the NCAA against much older more mature prospects than many others have this season. Put up pretty good numbers.

In a better draft year, he probably isn't even in consideration for #1, he might be a 3 or 4 in a different year.

If you are looking at Ekblad does this draft have a Brayden Point, Leon Draisital or David Pastrnak before you pick Ekblad?

Would you draft Ehlers or Larkin before taking Ekblad? I know I wouldn't

Scouching on Power - yikes, it gets ugly. Now with that in mind, I take some of Wills' "data" with a grain of salt. But some of his defensive analysis were eye opening.

- Brooks_Light

You would think he would have more reservations against a player like Fabian Lysell who is supposed to be a scorer who put up 3 points in 26 games in the SHL this season.

He put up numbers very similar to Jakub Vrana.

I really wouldn't be taking Jakub Vrana at 6oa where he has Lysell ranked. .57 career NHL PPG for Vrana.

Vrana is 13th in his draft year in scoring but that is only accounting for scoring.

In most drafts though a mid first should have a career scoring rate around Vrana though.

Power was heavily relied upon by Gallant at the World Championships. IIRC he played 24, 28, and 24 minutes, in the final 3 games.
Pretty impressive for a draft eligible defender.

Playing "big minutes" in 3 games in a tournament where Andrew Mangiapane is the best player is not my definition of "pretty impressive"

But We've established that we don't see eye to eye on defenders

Not sure what impresses you for a defenseman, when the kid also played big minutes on his NCAA team.
Would it impress you more if he played big minutes in the litigation?

Ironically, defensively he has a lot of the same warts that Quinn has so I'm shocked you're so impressed by him.

Ruby has a size bias.😆

Plus as Will says when the eye and data don't align for him. He's pretty much a lost puppy.

Ruby has the biggest, most disgusting case of "grass is greener" disease I've ever witnessed. The funniest, most ironic part is his projected motto he sets upon everyone #canuckfansgetwhattheydeserve - actually sums up himself perfectly.

He's a fascinating car crash to watch post

Don't know if you follow the Blue Jays or not, but they just drafted 8 pitchers out of their 9 picks over the weekend.

I'd love for JB to follow suit - grab McTavish, Johnson, or Sillinger with the first then take D with the rest of the picks - except maybe grab a goalie with one of the 5 or 6 round picks.

that's nothing...

The Los Angeles Angels used all 20 of their 2021 draft picks on pitchers.

Miami University right-hander Sam Bachman was the Angels' first-round pick. Nineteen of the 20 picks were college pitchers.

Angels scouting director Matt Swanson said the team didn't necessarily rule out selecting a position player, especially in the earlier rounds, but at some point during the final 10 rounds on Tuesday decided to "let it ride."

"Today was really targeting pitching. It's obvious," he said. "We took 20 pitchers. That was a strong focus for us today. There were so many valuable pitchers to bring into the organization, so just go all out and play the hot hand."

wow - that's commitment

They're gonna have 1. Serious competition for spots. 2. Way too many pitchers. 3. A lot of trade chips

I know I have been a strong proponent of selecting a bunch of defensemen this draft, but, Brett Harrison is a player I would be fine with the Canucks selecting.

Pretty good info here on the top end of the draft, even if you don't agree with the list, I found it informative.

That list is a bit off. I guess if his list is the way it is with
I tried to put a bit more emphasis on a player’s floor and likely projection this year as opposed to betting on upside every time.

Attributes make players careers. The level of them.

54 Stanislav Svozil 3rd/4th Round
55 Artyom Grushnikov 3rd/4th Round
56 Aatu Raty 3rd/4th Round
57 Ryder Korczak 3rd/4th Round
58 Chase Stillman 3rd/4th Round
59 William Stromgren 3rd/4th Round
60 Ville Koivunen 3rd/4th Round
61 Sean Behrens 3rd/4th Round
62 Samuel Helenius 3rd/4th Round
63 Evan Nause 3rd/4th Round

Everyone of these players should be 2nd round picks easily.

Nobody has seen the guy play really except for scouts. A complete unknown to pretty much anyone outside of the NHL.

“Connor Kurth at Dubuque (Fighting Saints),” said one source of NHL Central Scouting’s 220th-ranked North American skater, who is committed to the University of Minnesota. “He’s producing in the USHL as a late 2003. Reminds me of Matt Hendricks. I could see him carving out a role in the NHL. He’s a sandpaper guy with skill.”

I had mentioned this player earlier in the forum. Kind of a bull in a china shop almost Cal Clutterbuck type I see.

Another USHL source gave Sioux Falls’ Tyler Haskins, a July 2003 birthday who is committed to the University of Michigan and posted 27 points in 51 games as a rookie in the USHL (seventh on the Stampede in scoring), some love: “He’s a fast skater. He’s not overly dynamic. He’s more of a north-south guy. But he’s a good prospect.”

I also mentioned this guy earlier too as a late rounder possibility.

I think he's got more to give then what he showed this year.

Wyatt Johnson: “Very skilled, creative, smart. Wasn’t out in high offensive situations for Team Canada and plays for a bit of an old-school playing style team in Windsor so when teams are looking at 16-year-old tape, he probably doesn’t jump out at you a lot.”

I like Both Wyatt Johnson and Brett Harrison but I think Harrison will be better.
