Should we have a Covid-19 thread?

It's quite possible the most fascinating thing we witness in our lifetimes, maybe not if you're younger.

I believe the world is going to change much more severely than it did post 9/11.

I realize for many it's frightening so they might not want to discuss it much.

What pisses me off the most is that the Trumpeteers will completely forget the White House’s early handling of this pandemic. Americans will rally around their Pumpkin King and look to him for guidance. It’s disgusting.

Just saw Spain has reached a daily record for virus deaths with 838 fatalities in the last 24 hours.

What’s really frightening is that Spain is the world’s healthiest country, according to the 2019 Bloomberg Healthiest Countries Index. The nation topped the ranking of 169 economies, which takes into account variables including life expectancy, access to clean water and sanitation, tobacco use and obesity.

Italy was second... USA 43rd.

Edit: USA 35th. Sorry.

They already have. Despite the contradictions, "approval rating has shot up to 49% – matching the best of his presidency and a 5-point boost since the outbreak started. What's more, 60% of Americans approved of Trump's response to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Gallup poll."

https://www.google.com/am...atoday.com/amp/5078347002

January 22, "we have it totally under control. It's one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It's going to be just fine."

January 30, "We have very little problem in this country at this moment."

February 10 "Now the virus that we're talking about, a lot of people think that goes away in April, with the heat," followed by "It looks like this virus is probably with us beyond this season and beyond this year."

February 28 "The Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. This is their new hoax."

“It’s going to disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear”

February 29, Trump said a vaccine would be available "very quickly" and "very rapidly."

March 2 press conference, Trump said that the coronavirus would be less deadly than the flu.

"On average, you lose from 26,000 to 70,000 or so, and even some cases more, from the flu. We lose — we have deaths of that per year," Trump said. "And here, we're talking about a much smaller range."

March 7 "Anybody that needs a test gets a test — they're there," adding that they have the tests. "And the tests are beautiful."

I don't know if this is going to go well for Trump. He's getting a boost now because of an unheard of stimulus package and they're finally starting to respond.

I think as the casualties mount and the virus spreads he won't be able to live down the fact he contradicted every doctor and scientist out there and much of the stimulus package won't matter because it will have been spent twice over by then.

Agreed. As the death toll mounts his popularity will fade. I'm more worried about the civil war when he does lose the election.

Well, this isn't surprising and it sorta lives up to the stereotype (same sort of thing in Texas):

Mississippi’s governor tries to shut abortion clinic, but won’t order residents to stay home

Reeves issued an order Tuesday defining many businesses as essential — including department stores and restaurants, which can still serve 10 people at a time.

Though Reeves has been slow to close businesses, he was quick to try to shut down the state’s sole remaining abortion clinic in Jackson,

These are the same guys that will argue that sacrificing some people for the economy is fine.

Living next to you is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is affected by every twitch and grunt.

I know it’s difficult to be optimistic right now but BC is going a good job with its fight against the spread of covid. Hospital capacities are manageable and infection rates are slowing. Reading that this week is crucial in determining what the future holds for our province.

Can’t say the same for Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta. Scary numbers coming out of those provinces.

No. They said inter provincial travel is not being restricted beyond the essential travel directive. Which I believe is still going on the honour system.

People seem to be following protocol out here with the exception of the 2 most entitled demographics; the yutes and the newly retired.

I think it's something that the BC government should consider if they have it under better control than their neighbouring province.

Agreed. Why anyone is travelling right now is beyond me.
BC Ferries ridership is done over 70%. They are running at essential service only.

Their crying hasn't stopped since the election for one reason or another. I hope they separate, they are an embarrassment to this great country.

You notice how lil’ Kenney’s tune has changed now that he needs a strong Federal presence to help bail out his province? Opportunistic jackass.
