She mentioned it a few days back, not sure if she specifically said Kitimat but she did mention work camps.

Same down here, in the island health authority, western communities get lumped in with Victoria, how many in the western communities and how many in Lanford, ( ) or Colwood?

I must have missed that report. Thanks.

Not anymore. Cumberland is yuppy town. MEC, Lulu Lemon, Starbucks soy latte crowd. BMW's, Mercedes, Porsche & Audi cars and SUV's. The Cumberland Hotel getting torn down for condos. Edgemont Village on the island.

You've heard of 'Cayet', then. Part of development plan.

Too late. They're here. Housing more than double in a couple of years. Traffic is brutal. Speeding, running stop signs, aggressive tailgating. People who don't return a friendly hello. A knifing in the small village centre with the victim refusing to cooperate. Good times.

They've already infested the island like rats.

Funny observation. About half the guys roaring around the village in their BIG trucks are halflings. Angry little manlets.

I lived in one of those ‘master planned’ communities on yaletown. Looks good but contains no cultural identity. Essentially dead space feeling. Awful places.

You could always sell and move elsewhere.

I know it sucks to uproot your life but there's an entire planet out there.

Dead year round and real estate is cheapish.

It's too complicated leaving with my health (finding good specialists is not easy) and an ailing Mom in the city. I just hate the people moving here. I moved here to leave the city and the snobby attitudes behind. The folks moving here the past couple of years want to bring the city with them. People won't make eye contact and some won't acknowledge a hello. More conflict in the trails between bikers and walkers, which never happened before. More unleashed dogs not being controlled.
I liked it when it took 1/2 hour to walk 4 blocks in the village because you had to stop and chat with folks.

Unfortunately, people are becoming less equipped to deal with personal interactions. Most people these days primarily communicate online, text and phone call.

Sad but true. The number of children & dogs we see getting walked by a parent/owner glued to the smart phone in their hand is a reflection of that.

Happening in the gulf Islands right now also.
People come here because they like the community but try turning it into the city with their attitude once they've arrived.

I'd rather leave my phone at home.

Most people don't know the freedom of being disconnected.

Like the folks that buy island homes and then complain about ships at anchor, deep sea vessels at anchor are beautiful.

I agree... people buy land overlooking a freighter anchorageand get all bent out of shape that they're still anchoring there.

Like moving to the Comox Valley and then complain about the base and the snowbirds training in the spring and the air cadets practising flying in the summer? Or the farmers spreading manure in the spring and ruining peoples Easter? Or the Vancouver couple that buys a place on Denman Island to use on weekends and holidays and then shuts down the next door neighbours summer youth soccer camp by complaining to Islands Trust?

We get quite a few up here and expect to see a lot more over the next 20 years, they are nice to see anchored, I just hope the route of travel, in our narrow channel, has been planned out well.😁
