I do miss the nasty rivalries though

Montreal vs Quebec
Flyers vs the Rags
Edmonton vs Calgary

Those games were a blast. I don’t care about the fighting as much as I just miss the overall snarl. Totes nailed it when he said no one hates anyone out there any more. You see a glimmer of it when we play the Pens, but that pales in comparison to the rivalries of the 80s and 90s.

Don’t get me wrong, todays players have off the charts skills and I don’t miss the clutch and grab trap at all. I just would like to see a little more nasty out there most nights.

Agreed Bigg, but the snarl inevitably leads to retaliation and fight, or in today’s game, a penalty and short handed situation. NHL is trying to be kinder and gentler so they can appeal to a wider, more passive audience, and it’s hurting the game. Look at attendance/ and or ticket price/ demand across the league. While I don’t ever want to cheap shots, when two willing guys drop ‘em, the entire arena rises to see it. To me, snarl pi$$es someone off, an extra whack or two, and a fight breaks out. We, as fans back then, grew to despise opposing teams and players with passion, all brought about from the wars with other teams. Look no further than G laying a big hit on Crosby, then dropping the gloves. Set the tone for a nasty, passionate series. Today, it’s a penalty to G, the linesman break it up, and it’s the same boring crap we see game after game. Again, no cheap stuff, but the rough stuff leads to passionate, and compelling rivalries!!

Jeez.

If G could stay at center when Couts gets back they suddenly become very solid at the C position.

JvR with G I think is the way to get the most from JvR.

Lindblom then moves back to top nine on LW.

What if the line Coots centers can not produce?

No it's really not. He has the most ice time on the team and the Flyers are completely controlling the play when he is on the ice.
- MJL

He had an awful 1st period. If you saw different, we will just disagree. He was much better in the 2nd. That's obvious.

If G line and Patrick’s produce and Couts plays more of a shut down role they would be fine

We could have been a better team right out of camp if we made this simple decision.

Honestly, if they got rid of the instigator rule, you’d see less cheap shots. I’d much rather see a fight than the crap pulled by guys like Wilson and Marchand.

Just saying...moving G to center is with a heavy assumption that the other changes work. Right now 2nd and 3rd are not producing, how does that change when Coots drop for that "shut down" role.

Is it 4-1 Buffalo or 3-2 Philly?

Calm the (frank) down and put Giroux back at center so we can hang with these good teams!
