Matthews was a no show last night. We must be getting near playoff time. At one point announcers actually started whining over the fact that the Sens were on top of Matthews the entire game. Imagine what happens when he actually has to play against a tight defensive group come the playoffs

Should have picked Laine

Interesting how Gallagher went out of his way to emphasize that Stutzle is a great young player. He said it twice. And he emphasized that he had also said it in his previous contentious interview. Stutzle says nothing. He just plays and it was obvious Montreal was desperate to keep him off score sheet.

Despite not scoring Timmy played a great game. Made me think he will be a handful for any team meeting up with the Sens in a playoff round.

Maybe a few found it in bad taste to post "God has spoken" the day after Melnyk passed away.

Another weak sauce troll on the Leaf blog.

You can't help but wonder if this will affect how Kadri and his agent approach his UFA status? Probably not. I assume he will be asking $9m on a long term deal.

Colorado has the cap space to do a deal. But they also have MacKinnon next year and Makar is locked into a long term contract at $9m. Maybe I read this entirely wrong, but would not be surprised to see Colorado pass on Kadri.

Difficult decision for Sakic. But he seems to be ahead of most GMs when it comes to reading the long term game.

Blackhawks are fully engaged in a stage one tear down and rebuild. They are leading the charge of teams looking for Conor Bedard and the other elite prospects at the top end of the 2023 lottery draft.

Despite having committed to a rebuild, Hawks do not have a 1st round pick for 2022. Columbus holds their first (6th overall) in the upcoming draft. It marks a significant delay in the Hawks beginning the rebuild phase. Hawks already have 2 firsts and 2 seconds in 2023. Safe assumption is that all players on Hawks roster are available for picks and prospects. Also, safe to assume most top tier players want out of Chicago despite their contract status.

Ottawa: 1st (2022), 2nd (2022) from Tampa, 3rd (2022) from Boston, Matt Murray, Colin White, Zaitsev.

Chicago: Seth Jones

Sens are moving more kids up and Nick Paul was a casualty. He wanted $4m. Sens sending out signals that they are going to move Connor Brown. He is (I think $3.6m.). Both would be a great fit for the Leafs. But very pricey for 3rd line players.

Leafs are in a big hurry to acquire a player they discarded for $3M+

i like Connor Brown but he's simply not a difference maker and really isn't much of an asset at that price.

Dubas has badly mismanaged the file.
Leafs need to just take the picks and begin to assess the damage Dubas has done in just two short years. I am certain it is the Islanders who are on the come. Lou has been plotting his revenge for more than a year.

Listened to a great interview on NHL Channel 91 Serius Radio.

Gord Wilson of Team 1200 was on to speak about the Stutzle contract signing plus some of the other moves being made by the Sens this summer. He did a really fine job.

But, discussion was even more interesting after Gord finished. The hosts wondered what it means for the rest of the league if the Sens lock in all their young stars to long term deals in the $8m range.

What they really were asking was the same old question, what does this mean for the Leafs? Will a significant cap increase result in Matthews asking for $15m and Marner $13m? Does Nylander want $10m and does Tavares continue to collect his $11m? Does it put the Leafs at a disadvantage if they have to pay their top 4 players $49m and the Sens are only going to pay $32.8m to their top 4.

Every team in the NHL is shaking in their boots about facing the mighty Sens. (and also their 18 fans) WTF is Serius Radio - you twirp!

It can be heavily biased when you get the local home broadcast as we do tonight. But, overall, the Winnipeg crew has been pretty good and very balanced in their reporting. Nothing like a Leaf/Sens broadcast when it sometimes sounds like only one team dressed for the game.

Folks who know how to make money...know hew to make money. The LeBreton lands in on the site of former logging operations and the soil is in need of remediation. In the last go round the NCC offered to pay upwards of $200m for the remediation. I believe one of the partners on the failed attempt last time was a company that specializes in remediation.

The Ottawa business community is so ready for this that we might be shocked by how quickly it moves and how deeply the business community comes on as huge Sens supporters. Spatso
