If they keep cancelling games and we end up with an unbalanced schedule there is a good chance the NHL will need to revert to a play-in round similar to last year.

If so, maybe the Sens are not entirely outside the possibility of post season play.

Love this team.

Disappointed some fans don't see the quality of the foundation that is beginning to take shape.

Love the thread and the passion. But!

Covid matters. Sometimes the disease wins. Covid is not responsible for everything going on with the Sens but it is a significant factor.

I hate all this whiney talk. This is not the time for snivellers and blamers. Everybody has a right to an opinion and we all love hockey talk and speculation. But filling out a management team of has beens and wanna bees would be foolish and disastrous.

When the Sens promoted Dorion to GM, my favourite candidate for GM was Julien Brisbois, a young gun in Tampa who was making a good name for himself. Who are the young and the up and comers capable of taking a program all the way?

But it has to be one person and he has to be given the freedom of building his own management team.

I like the way Montreal has handled their mess. Jeff Gorton!

He gets to call the shots. Is he the right guy? Give me that as an option rather than a management and coaching roster of used to bees that nobody else seems to want.

Yes Spatso, the organization run by El Cheapo and the one with pre-covid attendance issues, and the one losing money every season is going to hire a top notch GM, rather than hiring one at minimum wage.

Heard some team gossip yesterday. I have no confirmation of what I was told is true. But, the information swirling around this team does trigger some obvious simple questions that are directly tied to the current speculation and gossip?

Is Melnyk out of cash?

Will he miss making front office payroll at the end of this month?

Has the NHL refused to extend the guarantee of his credit line?

Have other team owners and Bettman formally advised Melnyk... "enough, no more!"

Are Melnyk's lenders refusing any renegotiations of the team debt?

Have not heard anyone talk specially about a debt restructuring under the Company Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAC). This would allow for the simultaneous sale of the team and the restructing of the debt. CCAC is the mechanism that would make the most sense to get this mess finally settled.

No confirmation on any of these rumours but there is a wicked amount of smoke filled chatter blowing around the Canadian Tire Centre.

Sens played a strong game against the Sabres. They lost despite carrying the play into the Buffalo end all night.

Stutzle, Brannstrom and Formenton all looked really good. In fact, I thought the Sens played better than what they did in the recent wins against Edmonton and Calgary.

Full credit to the Sabres for standing tough against the physical style the Senators play.

I am convinced Sens are building a team that will be a very hard out when they finally make the playoffs. Soft teams can't go deep in the playoffs. It is always the same. After Christmas teams get serious. Edmonton has collapsed. The triple axles so easily performed in the early season are now proving more difficult. Physical play makes that kind of difference.

I watched Sheldon Keefe in his post game interview last night try to explain how the Leafs blew a 3-1 lead against the Ranger last night. His only explanation..we are too soft!

Duh! All three games (Edmonton, Calgary and Buffalo) were great character building games for the kids. Folks need to be more open in understanding that there can be great progress even when the result is not a win.

A really good hockey game. Despite the injuries I thought the Sens played a really good game against a highly skilled and disciplined Carolina team.

Lots of really strong performances.

One guy who really stood out for me tonight was Watson.

He played the body all night, blocked shots and looked really strong on his skates whenever he was on the ice.

Nick Paul at $3m is very good value.

But! Nick Paul will draw a lot of attention at the trade deadline. Is he worthy of a late first round pick? Connor Brown will definitely bring offers

Love this team.

Playing without Norris, Batherson, Pinto and White up front.

The future top 6 will be strong and there is going to be real quality on the back end with Chabot, Zub, Sanderson, Brannstrom, Thompson, JBD and perhaps more.

Pretty soon we will be able to focus on how to put together a bottom 6 that enables the Sens to be a serious contender.

Stay patient. Look to the future. There is so much to like about this team.

Zaitsev has played decent hockey. Be careful. There are some fans who just need a scapegoat. Before Zaitsev it was Ceci. They just need someone to rag on. Sometimes folks just see what they want to see.

The problem is if you have 7 Dmen you will always have a best and worst. When fans focus on Larry Murphy they become convinced they are right and the coaches are wrong and they highlight every flaw. So, when Murphy goes on to Detroit and helps them win a Stanley Cup, the whiners say but he never played that well for us.

Zaitsev is an okay fit for now.

Well said.

Hard to follow this thread recently. Far too much complaining and outright whining about things that really don't matter in the long term.

When a team is rebuilding you need patience and vision in order to find your satisfaction in the achievements and progress of individual players. So much to be positive about and, yet, some folks can never be happy unless they can find something to be unhappy about.

Keep loving it Spatso - you will soon be doing victory laps around the Canadian Tire Fire Center.

Sorry but I am just plain fed up with all forms of "whataboutism." Making this about a tough play in overtime is just a bunch of folks wanting to avoid talking about giving up 5 goals to an offensively challenged Coyote crew.

The idea that the referee stole this game from the Leafs is ludicrous,

It is always the same in the old western movie. Te crowd gets a rope and everyone gets excited for a lynching. Does anybody really believe that a change of coach or GM, at this time, will make any difference other than satisfying the blood thirst of the mob?

Common sense tells you changes are coming. And, at this point, a change is probably good for everyone. In last night's game it is clear that the team has lost its will to fight and the compete level is now astonishingly low.

Team is suffering from inferior goaltending and there are too many passengers. Nobody is following through on their checks and the team as a whole has lost its snarl.

I like this team a lot. It is far closer than folks might think they are. If the idea here is to fire the GM and start making deals to immediately try and improve the team...count me out. Patience. The answer is written in the wind.

The players have given up on the season. There is no must win belief for anyone on this team and that is the way it always works when 1/3 of your team goes into each game wondering what will happen to them on trade deadline day.

The hard part of a rebuild, especially in a small market, is you still need to maintain fan interest and generate revenues by maintaining a hope interest through the actual rebuild process.

You cannot tell the fan base we are going to stink for 3-4 years. And, even when we have better players they will be very raw and need time to develop.

Nobody should be surprised with where the Sens are today. We got our hopes up when they made a nice run at the end of last season. There are no magic bullets. It takes time and patience.

When Melnyk bought the Sens he threw a party and invited all season ticket holders to attend the Corel Centre (I think that is what CTC was still called back then) for a party. He invited The Eagles as the entertainment. It was a fabulous night.

Next best night was The Boss and surprisingly 3rd best I would say was the big band sound put on Michael Buble just a few years ago.

My favourite hockey moment was the spontaneous ovation given Wayne Gretzky on his final game played in Canada. No announcement had been made before or during the game on the expectations of his retirement. But, towards the end of the game, fans stood on their own and began to applaud and soon the entire building was applauding on what was speculation about his retirement. It was a moving and sincere tribute to a great player and also for our love of the game of hockey itself.

My absolute favourite hockey highlight moment was the Jason Spezza deke on Sheldon Souray to score a winning goal.

Eugene Melnyk has been at the heart of the sports and entertainment scene in Ottawa for a great run.

There is so much to like with this team and Joseph appears to be a really good fit.

Rebuilds are funny things. You think you are making progress and then you realize the kids are really kids and they have difficulty closing against veteran teams. But, one day, suddenly, they just start winning more than they lose and they don't fold against the veteran teams with the intense work ethic.

It is so easy to get ahead of ourselves but I believe these guys are really close to being something special.

Right now 1/2 of the Sens very young top 6 is the direct result of shrewd trading by PD. Stutzle, Norris and Joseph. Great game last night. Nashville is a good team. Sens are getting closer.

Really pumped watching Formenton and Joseph on penalty kill. These guys are really good.

My background is insolvency. It has been clear to most everyone for a long time that Melnyk was unable to meet his debts as they became due. He routinely committed acts of insolvency on an almost daily basis. Most of the outrage over financial issues is gone. People wanted to move on. I understand there are still folks wanting to be paid but hockey fans just wanted to stop talking about the financial stuff since a long time ago.

I stopped talking about it several years ago. I dealt with my frustration on the obvious by using variations on the expression that the Melnyk problem will be resolved on God's time. God has now spoken.

Matthews was a no show last night. We must be getting near playoff time. At one point announcers actually started whining over the fact that the Sens were on top of Matthews the entire game. Imagine what happens when he actually has to play against a tight defensive group come the playoffs
