Awesome! Matthews signed, and to the deal he deserves. Glad this happened. I was a bit worried Lou was going to play hardball and not give him the bonuses. Just suck it up and give him what he deserves. If he was crap, he wouldn't get the bonuses anyways.
I would now like to shout out that I am 518th!
(I have no clue if that is correct) |

Mock a poster for BS Insider info and rumors,
on a site built around nothing but BS Insiders and rumors.
 - .HOHO.
I agree oddly enough (with you). Even if it is total BS, it's still entertaining And hockey focused. We can only talk about donairs other posters mom's for so long before we need to talk hockey. The amount of rumor blogs AND commentary has dropped dramatically the past few years and when someone does post something, everybody treats them like a pariah.

Everybody treats them like a pariah when they post self-aggrandizing bullpoop. If people want to talk hockey, there's always a discussion to be had, as long as they're not trying to troll (such as Spatso, for example).
EDIT: I think part of this comes from the fact that a large number of people don't come here for the rumours or "news", but rather because there's a solid community of good posters who usually get along quite well. I'd imagine that probably more than 50% of posters don't read the blogs seriously, except to pick out instances of Garf being Garf, or Kadri getting traded... |

Nah. Lou knows Brendan's in charge. They would never cheap out on him. People still don't fully trust a Leafs management, which is understandable, but these guys honestly know what they are doing.
It'll take time, but we'll get there. - walshyleafsfan
give the doinks who dream up the "Lou won't sign him KHL baloney" five minutes to dream up some stupidity ... or read a Berger blog.

I agree there was self-aggrandizing going on. He WAS asked/goaded into providing his credentials though. Whether they are real or not is a different story. The people here are amazing. I love the continual banter and camaraderie. So many unique characters (Spazo included). Anyways; more beer then bed. Hockey, Can't believe we traded CLARKSON!!! Which player gets highest PPG for the Leafs? : Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Brown or Other (10 or more NHL games playes in 16/17).
I have to go with Willie. |

Crazy/scary part is embers started a fire over a block away. So it's been a real shot poop show. - RickJames77
Can fire ever devastate quick. One minute it's burning then boom into an inferno. |

Happy for Leivo, too. Kid deserves whatever contract he gets. I've even forgiven him for ninja kicking Reimer in the head a few years ago. |

Signing him to a one way may dissuade another team from picking him off waiver if thy do try to send him to the Marlies.
Also, with him signing for 615k or whatever it worked out to the leafs would be saving cap space if they waive someone like mihalek and played leivo instead. |

It's such a small cap hit that IMO will not dissuade other teams from claiming him.
He could be Las Vegas bound in a year. |

not the cap hit, the fact any team looking to claim him would need the open roster spot to retain him, or be forced to put him through waivers themselves. |

edit, if they succeeded in doing that, they would also have to pay him that $ to play in the AHL. that money is peanuts to NHL teams but would be way more than most AHL players make (excluding buried contracts). Some teams could easily do it, others not so much.
edit: damn wrong button. |

or he could be paired with one of our expendable forwards to trade for a backup goalie or a salary dump |

Correct me if I'm wrong but all but 950k or whatever stays on the cap regardless of who you replace the player with if they go down to the minors |

Perhaps he may be a better option for a team than what they have. |

But he wont be.
He paid his dues in the minors.. the Leafs are giving him a chance this year to impress on the big club. |

yes, that is the risk, but if he doesn't earn a spot out of training camp, putting him on waivers when all the other teams are doing the same thing to get their final roster set, is likely the least risky option for doing so.
I like Leivo and think he should get a decent shot over some of the aging vets, but think it's a long shot this year (unless trades). |
