Lots of teams have filled their rosters with kids and it hasn't led to success and I also don't see the connection between playing in an NHL game and being capable of playing in a NHL game. Many of these guys are in the lineup to find out if they are capable not because they are capable.
I'm as excited as any to see if these guys are players, I'm just not ready to say that process is a sign that this team is in capable hands. - belcherbd

I wonder how the city of Vancouver and the fans will react if Tryamkin makes a mistake tonight. Do we start to see #bust circulating through social media..

I see Tryamkin taking the puck behind his own net... then start out slow but burst into blazing speed all the way down to the Winnipeg Goalie only to be stopped by Tabaracci.
Hey --- yesterday 1040 said something about not protecting the Sedins in an expansion draft but i didn't hear the story.... can anyone fill in details? |

I agree that it isnt to say the guys up top are the most capable, but they did from the start say they wanted to get younger and replenish asset pool, which I dont think you can argue. Tonights lineup is not about how the team got younger, because youre right that this is only a test for some, but shows they did a good job drafting and acquiring young talent that can be tested. In years past I dont think there were 10 players even in consideration to be tested.
When healthy, your normal line up would have 6-8 24 and unders in the lineup, which I think is still pretty good |

sad but true. the talking heads will have talking points to push the perspective that the direction we are headed in is the wrong direction since we are not following the Toronto model. |

I think the notion was to protect only one or if one was picked up by another team and not the other, they would likely retire or something... I try not to listen to closely anymore. |

The TO model has only done a teardown. What the future brings is still anyones guess. They luv to talk about who runs the team eg Shanny Lou Hunter n Babcock.
Last time i checked its the players that do the winning. That is what counts n no guarantees. |

I'm sure we'll hear about it. They don't have much else to do there with the 60 year rebuild and that new planet rotating around the city. |

Does MLSE have a veto on allowing another NHL team on that new planet? |

Tippet could be there, but it's hard to justify a coach that hasn't won a significant trophy (president's trophy, conference championship, SCF) when his team isn't in the playoff picture like Hakstol has done with Philly. Hakstol took a lousy team and inserted some order and they are now knocking on the door of the playoffs... - kaptaan
exactly. good example of what Ive been saying about a coaching staff being the driving force behind the direction of the team...they can make or break the team. Obviously in his case his is making it. You give a team structure and strategy then it succeeds. Especially in the playoffs in a best of 7 series. |

And this whole 'winning/losing atmosphere' is a pile o' crap IMO. The reason EDM and TO and a few other teams have been destitute is not because of players becoming accustomed to a 'losing atmoshere'. Players want to win at all costs Thunda and I discussed that a few threads ago. Teams like EDM and especially TO for decades have been destitute because they refused to put proper MNGT and coaching in place for long periods of time. That has basically zero to do with players coming up in a 'losing culture'. Don't buy that at all.
EDM and TO now have much better MNGT and coaching and they will be on the upswing whether we like it or not. That is the culture change those teams need not this players in a losing culture crap.
*Except when talking Kesler...that guy is a natural born loser in almost every way.
 - LordHumungous
Lord....yes TO and oilers have better management and coaching now, so why arent they tearing up the league then? This is a good example of the losing culture having a grip on the team. It takes time to shed that. The new management and coaches help shed that too but its going to take time.
If your argument that a losing culture has no merit (and JB disagrees with you btw) then these teams should be successful and playoff bound and not firmly anchored to the basement floor like both are.
Maybe just maybe there is more at play here Lord. Losing and winning pedigrees exist. Losing Particularly in impressionable young men that are handed riches and fame they arent ready for.
Like many other arguments and concepts out there, Just because you dont see it doesnt make it untrue. |

I'm not sure I agree, I think if this team was healthy and in the playoff hunt we would see many of the vets the team has moved on from still in the lineup and possibly others acquired.
Health and standings have more to do with the youth movement than "the plan" IMO.
I think we still would have some youth and more than what we have seen in years past but not half the roster. Much like last season when we got 3 games of Baertschi. |
