It's a good design. The colours tho...

The blue as a base/background colour is fine. Perhaps my favourite part. Perhaps to pay homage to both the Union Jack and the Royal Banner of France.

But the big white leaf:

It's unnatural. I understand a big red leaf would be too heavy on a blue background (and not wanting to repeat the leaves on the shoulders).

Perhaps introduce a 4th color, such as the gold of the fleur-de-lis—which are used on the shield of both the Red Ensign and Blue Ensign, and on the Canadian Coat of Arms (as well as on other national and provincial symbols)—to also pay homage to French Canada (New France). And a maple leaf can be gold (yellow) in nature.
